Lupe Fiasco is slated to appear in an interview with Katie Couric tomorrow (June 11), according to Yahoo.
Today (June 10), a portion of the interview was released. In the clip, Fiasco is asked about his faith and how it may interfere or be challenged by being a rapper.
"We're human," Fiasco says when asked about being Muslim. "We have faults. We make mistakes. That's what religion is for, to help you correct your mistakes."
In the interview, Fiasco is also asked about his criticism of President Obama. "I had people threaten me," he says of his comment about President Obama on "Word I Never Said."
In June 2011, Fiasco spoke about his criticism of Obama, as well. “To put it into context, I was asked about a song I did called ‘Words I Never Said,’ which addresses the war on terrorism,” Lupe said at the time. “So the statement that I made, which was ‘I believe that the biggest terrorist is Obama and the United States of America and its foreign policy,’ that was what the whole context of everything was. And there’s really just an expression of me trying to understand, critically, the society.”
