Hip Hop Singles Sales: Week Of 06/01/14

Two songs from Iggy Azalea are in the Top 10 of the R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart this week. Cuts from Lil Wayne and Sage The Gemini also make major moves.

This week, Iggy Azalea continues her run at the top of the R&B/Hip-Hop singles chart with “Fancy," while another one of her songs lands in the Top 10. Lil Wayne also returns to the Top 10.

Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” Still #1

Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” single is the #1 single on the R&B/Hip-Hop singles chart for the fifth consecutive week.

The rapper’s single has been on the charts for 13 weeks. It jumped to the #1 spot from the #4 slot five weeks ago. It sold 288,520 copies this week, a 14 percent decrease from last week’s 335,923 units sold.

“Fancy,” which also features Charli XCX, has sold 1,670,838 units.

“Work,” another single from the Australian rapper, dropped one percent in sales this week and still made it into the chart’s Top 10. It sold 25,823 units this week compared to 26,190 units last week. On the charts for 62 weeks, “Work” has sold 316,897 units.

Lil Wayne’s “Believe Me” Makes Highest Debut

Lil Wayne makes the highest debut on the R&B/Hip-Hop singles chart this week.

The New Orleans rapper's "Believe Me" enters the chart at #5 with sales of 84,052.

Last month, Lil Wayne revealed the single cover art for the Drake-assisted selection, which is thought to be a cut off the rapper's upcoming Tha Carter V album.

The single was referenced in April when Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant Tweeted a promotional image for Tha Carter V. Wayne retweeted the image, saying, "Believe me."

Sage The Gemini’s “Red Nose” Jumps 65%

Sage The Gemini’s “Red Nose” single enjoyed a 65% sales spike this week. It sold 5,875 copies this week, up from last week’s 3,552 copies.

On the charts for 56 weeks, the single has sold 639,046 copies.

It is the #70 single this week.

^^^LMFAOOOOOO He made nowhere near 2 to 3 dollars per album sale while on Interscope. More like 25 cents a sale. He makes nowhere near 100% of the album sale now. Has to pay the store that has his album, the producers, videographers, promoters, engineers, cover artist, etc... He's probably lost a decent amount of money so far.

^^^wrong. 50 makes more money off of independent sales then he ever would being at Interscope. He puts up his own money now to produce what he wants, when he wants, and he takes a bigger cut off what he sells. At interscope he may have made 2-3 dollars off an album sale, now he can make almost 10 dollars per sale. What business school did you go to? He has enough fans to be successful on an independent label, which is his own G Unit records. Capitol/Universal only handle the distribution, they don't pay him any budgets for his music. Stop hatin so damn early.

He's making garbage music that won't push any units. He's only independent because it's garbage and no major label is willing to live with his terms for the horrible product he's producing. Why make a deal to lose millions, defies basic business logic.
