Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 06/01/2014

Mariah Carey's "Me. I Am MariahThe Elusive Chanteuse," Michael Jackson's "Xscape" and Iggy Azalea's "The New Classic" are this week's Top 3 albums in Rap and R&B.

This week's Billboard Top 200 Albums chart features several R&B and Hip Hop acts. The top act is Mariah Carey, as the singer's first week sales for Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse are revealed. Michael Jackson continues to chart with Xscape in the project's third week of availability. Meanwhile, Iggy Azalea remains in the Top 10 with The New Classic.

Mariah Carey's Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse Arrives At #3

Mariah Carey's Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse album is the #3 album this week. The project, which can be streamed here, sold 58,580 copies. The project is based on a self-portrait that the singer crafted as a child. The portrait appears on the back cover of the disc. “Please don’t judge me for such a simplistic title," Carey said when she announced the project. "Come on, I was only three and a half." The Elusive Chanteuse is Mariah's new nickname, the singer says.

Michal Jackson's Xscape Falls To #7

Michael Jackson's Xscape continues to chart. This week, the project's third week of availability, the effort sold 34,905 units. This is a 48 percent decrease from last week's sales. Overall, the set has sold 258,914 units. Epic Records recently spoke about the album. "Jackson’s essence and integrity, creating the best music you’ve never heard," Epic said.

Iggy Azalea's The New Classic Remains In Top 10

Iggy Azalea's The New Classic continues to chart in the Top 10. The album sold 18,262 units this week, a 16 percent drop from the effort's last week sales. Overall, The New Classic has sold 145,603 copies. The project earned a 2.5 out of 5 in its HipHopDX review"The New Classic is a musical throne upon which the new blonde princess of Pop can rest her ample posterior," DX says in its review. "As Rap and Pop synergize again—yet this time without significantly embarrassing results—it opens the gate for Iggy Azalea to have an opportunity to shine. Sometimes, when Pop marketing and urban music perfectly commingle, we get Michael Jackson’s Thriller. In other cases, Iggy Azalea’s The New Classic aims high, but ultimately falls flat."

I agree Physical Albums sales are plummeting hard every year that passes, A ton of the music stores have closed and HMV the major one has close a ton of stores across North America. Music is clearly going to streaming and buying singles C.Ds I bet will only be on the major market for 4 more years max. It sucks but thats the way it is.

I never taught I would see Mariah coming out the gate selling that low. Be sure to checkout thegrandreport, they have some good hip hop and viral videos on there

  • antonie

where is beyonce figures? is she not R and B?

When you look at Em's sales, who's old and been around for like 16 years, and then Iggy, who's way more played on radio and promoted these days, it just shows you how worthless having fans 21 and under is these days. Even Drake, this generations biggest star, has never sold 2 million copies of a record. Kids nowadays, if given the choice between spending money on an album or severing their right hand, would reach for the hatchet before their wallets.

True and sad regardless of the Drake part of the statement. Often when it comes to sales now a day, you need to be popular with the 25-40 crowd. They make good money and will spend money on items they want. Younger people just don't have the purchasing power and the drive to spend money on items that they can easily get for free.

Actually, Drake has sold 2 million copies of a record.

  • Ink B

50 is projected to sell 6 times lesser than Ross ahahhahahahhahaa MMG taking over , 50 is done and dusted . Ross said he would end 50s career and hes done just that and not to mention all the sites have rated the ross album more than the curtis album . I aint making up shit its all facts the nigga curtis steady taking them L's just like the rest of them NY niggas aahhahah.

  • castor

Iggy is a new low for the music industry. She's from Australia, which tells you how fake her voice is. I bet they did 100 takes and editing just to get rid of her Australian accent. At least that Kreyshawn girl wasn't lying about who she was.

  • Ricky Rozay

Im ready to laugh at that nigga curtis. if Mariah can't move units yall niggas know Curtis gonna go triple wood. Not only that but dx basically said that animal ambition is wack. Ross beasted that nigga in they beef and he kill him on wax. Rozay just released a classic Animal ambition gonna flop just like all of curtiss albums after 2008. haha Bawse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rappers need to stop trying to sell out on purpose, shit ain't working a hip hop chart and no spitters? smh.

Mariah's bombing big time. I mean one of the biggest stars moving only 55k? LOL!!! She may have to downgrade to indie after this. Austin Mahone coming close to her album is impressive. Oh and 50's going to bomb with 30k according to hitsdailydouble.

    • Anthony

you my friend take the dumb ass comment of the day award for saying downgrade to Indy at not point is that a downgrade and the more I see you clowns saying stupid shit like that informs me of the fact that you don't know ya head from your ass. You don't have a clue what you are talking about. Indy artist get paid more money of of sales period.

    • Anonymous

dudes watching hitsdailydouble like they betting, getting kentucky derby money lol

    • Anonymous

Mariah already sold 200 million records, she has nothing left to prove.

    • Anonymous

If anyone really bombed, it's Austin Mahone. Going to indie is not a downgrade at all.

  • classic motherfuckers

iggy has a classic album. Her songs are all going number 1 its a fucking 5 star classic

    • Anonymous

Yay, it Wednesday! Let me spend more time in computer class trying to dupe people online, I'll pick the worst rapper on the charts and say they're the best! Yeah! I'm so smart that no one will notice, I'm the first person to ever do this!

  • darius

Even worse than I expected. I wonder who Mariah is going to blame now. The music industry is different now, you can't sell just off of name value nowadays. No wonder she wasn't high on Def Jam's priority list last year. No one on their roster can move any units other than Rihanna, Kanye, Jeezy & Ross...& we all know Ross never does huge numbers.

  • Real Talk

This is so embarrassing for my girl Mariah Carey

  • h

Stop giving Eminem's figures and share other artists'.
