Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter announced the performers for The Roots’ 4th of July Jam at a press conference yesterday (May 5).

The free event is set to feature Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande and Aloe Blacc. The Roots will serve as the house band for the event.

The event, dubbed by VisitPhilly the “largest free concert in the country,” will be broadcast live on VH1 and online, according to visitphilly.com.

The Continental Congress ratified the United States Declaration of Independence July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia. The date signifies the American Colonies’ break from British imperial rule.
