Murs: "Paid Dues Will Not Happen This Year"

Murs explains why Paid Dues will not take place this year and says he plans to bring Paid Dues back in 2015.

Murs has announced that Paid Dues, which had its start in 2006, will not take place this year.

"First I’d like to thank all of you for your patience," Murs says in a statement released via social media. "This announcement has been a long time coming. I regretfully announce that Paid Dues will not happen this year. 2013 was financially challenging for my partners at Guerilla Union and as a direct result of these unfortunate circumstances we were not able to come together to give you another successful Paid Dues Festival. However, I am using this time to restructure my business in order to bring you Paid Dues for 2015. Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to celebrating Paid Dues 10 Year anniversary with you next spring. Stay tuned."

In 2013, Paid Dues was headlined by Black Hippy and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, among others. Also in 2013, Guerilla Union cancelled two of four Rock The Bells shows.

“First and foremost, it is with great sadness and disappointment that we must cancel the Washington, D.C. and New York City Rock The Bells dates due to lack of ticket sales," Guerilla Union's Chang Weisenberg said in the statement at the time of the Rock The Bells cancellation. "I, along with our staff, the artists, and all of the sponsors, media partners, local promoters, and radio stations involved are thankful for our supporters and the fans that planned on attending. It’s extremely unfortunate that we can’t complete the last half of the 10 Bells tour.

“I’m really bummed," Weisberg added then. "We were really excited, with it being the 10 year anniversary of the tour. Something like this leaves everyone scratching their heads. You look at the line-up and it just doesn’t make sense. I’m at a loss for words, really. I feel like I’ve let down so many people. The artists have been awesome and so supportive, but I’m crushed."

Paid Dues and Rock the Bells were really great for hip hop man. I remember the MD show in 08 when Wu-Tang and Slaughterhouse got into a huge beef after Joe Budden got beat up for talking sideways. So many great rappers that year. M.O.P was one of the best performances I've ever seen compared to these new rappers

I just want my music heard thats all, im not looking for no record deal, getting famous 'r anything like that.! so please just spare a few sec. to check me out, & if you like what you heard please SUBSCRIBE so ill know you actually listen & support

Maybe if they would just stick to the music, and the music people actually want to hear, then people would buy tickets. I don't care about seeing holograms and I don't want to see Tyga.

    • Anonymous

Tyga couldnt have been the only reason people didnt buy tickets. they were over zealous with the venues and artists in DC and it was poorly promoted like always

    • Anonymous

Holograms are coachella. As far as I know Tyga hasn't been to Paid Dues. It's obvious you obtain your music through a screen and headphones which is fine but don't speak on festivals and concerts since you are obviously haven't been to Paid Dues if you don't know who performs there. And I've yet to meet anyone at a festival who liked EVERY act. Lol if you don't go to a festival because you don't like one act you are stuck on stupid

Maybe if murs didn't spend money on music videos where he makes out with men just to get attention than he would have some money left over... Go away murs

Murs is a terrible rapper, worse human, and even walker business man!!

    • WalkOfShame

By trying to troll and making a retarded type you basically "WALKED" into that one

    • Fitz and The Tantrums

I just want it to be known Murs didn't handle any of the business on our last single. Just a coincidence it was named "The Walker" and he's in the business of such

    • Luke Skywalker

Now Hans not that type of Walker. The walker businessmen are famous across the galaxy. They mated with the Sky's and that's how my family was born.

    • Han Solo

If Murs truly is the best walker he's still no match for the Ewoks and my friend Chewy. Some string and rocks and we can take down any Walker!

    • Help I've Fallen And Can't Get Up

If only I had a great walker business man like Murs to sell me a quality one. I wouldn't have fallen down using a the walker I bought from the bad walker business man and cracked my hip! Now my kids are throwing away their inheritance at this Life Alert nonsense. Where was Murs the walker business man when I needed him?!

    • ChuckNorris_____TexasRanger

Only room for one Walker around these parts. Now back off before the fist hidden in my beard decapitates you

    • RickGrimes

Murs is a walker!? Michonne grab Coral while I take care of this

Hats off to Chang & GUERILLA UNION for putting on 10 years of CLASSIC SHOWS & putting their money up for an amazing ROCK THE BELLS Show last year, where others just 'talk' or 'dream about it'! They risk to provide GREATNESS for a culture in need of Trailblazers! Chang was deservedly honored at last year's IES : INDIE ENTERTAINMENT SUMMIT in L.A., alongside N.W.A, BONE THUGS 'n HARMONY, DJ QUIK, ABOVE THE LAW, NATE DOGG & STRANGE MUSIC exec VIOLET BROWN! We are rooting for Chang & GUERILLA UNION & PAID DUES to come back STRONG in '15! We need MORE of trailblazers like you!

they shouldve booked Ronny V. & Lil Slice!

  • dentaldamboy

Obviously something headlined by Kendrick or Macklemore would bomb. No one wants to hear that. Fans want real hip hop like Wayne, Drake, Ross, Nicki, Tyga, Wale, Meek Mill and Game.

    • world dominator

Bomb?! BLACK HIPPY w/ KENDRICK & MACKLEMORE broke ALL records last year! Over 29,000 tickets at an everage $100 price = $3,000,000 in tickets sold! NOT counting sponsors $, consessions, merch & parking! F*ck dat fake 'Rick Ross', meek rappers & flops like Wale! THEY are the reason Hip Hop is at an ALL TIME LOW!

Game's pretty much fucked up since he made it to your "list".
