Kid Ink has passed on several beats throughout his career, but one sticks out more than others.

Kid Ink says he decided to pass on the beat because the topic of the song did not fit his lifestyle at the time.

“I didn’t have a Murcielago, so it didn’t really make sense,” he says. “I didn’t have a Lambo, so I can’t really rap about this ’cause the hook was on there. I could’ve probably forced some ideas if I thought about it a little harder. I didn’t have any Lambos, so I just felt like I was faking it, rapping about being in a Lambo.”

The chorus for “Mercy,” which appears on G.O.O.D. Music’s 2012 album Cruel Summer, features the following lyrics: “Lamborghini Mercy / Your chick, she so thirsty / I’m in that two-seat Lambo with your girl, she tryin’ to jerk me.”

Kid Ink released his My Own Lane album in January 2014, a project that earned a 3 out of 5 in its HipHopDX review. “My Own Lane bridges the mainstream appeal of last year with a stylistic presence that could possibly set the tone for 2014,” HipHopDX said at the time. “Its musical influence pretty much stops there. Kid Ink will certainly have more opportunities in the future to prove why his lane is the movement to move with. For now, that lane is going 35 mph, and Ink is comfortably in cruise control.”
