Despite a reference to the Five Percent Nation on the newly-released “We Made It,” Jay Z’s association with the Five Percent Nation was refuted by a representative for the group during a recent interview with the New York Post.

“Jay Z is not an active member — no one has vouched for him,” Five Percent Nation representative, Saladin Allah said to the New York Post. “It was always understood that you don’t wear the regalia if you don’t totally subscribe to the life.”

On “We Made It,” Jay Z references Yakub, an individual who is described by the Nation of Islam as a black scientist who created the white race.

Following Jay Electronica’s verse on “We Made It,” Jay Z raps, “I’m ready to chase the Yakub back into caves/These are the last days, but do I seem fazed/Showed up to the last supper in some brand new J’s/I’m the true and livin’, book of Hov.”

The Brooklyn lyricist’s alleged ties to the Five Percent Nation were probed earlier this year by YDB, son of the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, during his interview with Forbez DVD Live. YDB went on to question why Jay Z has yet to use his celebrity to teach others.

“If he spreads this, which we are all his messengers, I don’t see nothing wrong with it,” YDB said. “But if he says anything bad about it—And he not teaching nobody right now. Him and Beyoncé—Beyoncé’s a beautiful woman, but they not teaching nobody shit. All I’m trying to say is we here and we only here to teach. I’m Elijah Muhammad’s student, he had a lot of children and I’m putting a lot of babies on this planet right now.”

In addition to Jay Z’s Yakub mention on “We Made It,” the rapper has also been pictured on numerous occasions wearing a chain, which features a pendant of the Five Percent Nation’s Universal Flag. He wore the chain last year during an interview with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club and most recently during a Brooklyn Nets game at Barclays Center earlier this month.
