The third installment of The Tanning of America: One Nation Under Hip Hop is scheduled to air on VH1 today (February 26) at 11 pm EST/PST. 

Titled “Episode 3: Gimme the Loot,” the episode chronicles 1993-1999, according to a press release. Topics featured in the episode include the rise of Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre; Hip Hop hitting the suburbs; Tommy Hilfiger and Hip Hop fashion; The Notorious B.I.G. and Puffy, Jay Z and Nas, and Ghetto Fabulous and Bling; the influence of music videos; Vibe magazine; the rise of FUBU and Jacob the Jeweler; Will Smith saving the world in the film Independence Day; and Time Magazine proclaiming America as a “hip-hop nation,” according to a press release. 

The Tanning of America: One Nation Under Hip Hop is based on a book by entrepreneur, advertising and record executive Steve Stoute. Stoute has worked at both Interscope Geffen A&M Records and Sony Music Entertainment as president of the urban music divisions. He also partnered with rapper and entrepreneur Jay Z to create the Translation LLC advertising agency.
