Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz recently shared a few words of advice with students at Chicago’s Tanner Elementary School. The North Clayton High School graduate encouraged those in attendance to follow their dreams and stressed the importance of finishing school as he spoke to a group of about 50 students.

“It’s an honor to come before people like y’all,” 2 Chainz said. “Y’all really gonna make the decisions for the future for the next decade. Man, it’s really on y’all. We grown. We got kids and all that, but it’s on y’all. A lot of y’all looking up to what we doing and all that and that’s fine and dandy, but at the end of the day you gotta finish school. I finished school. Everybody you see finished school. Although I’m not from Chicago, I still got a connection with people around. So, basically what I want to tell you is not just dream, I want you to follow your dreams because they could definitely come true. Now I’m up here headlining my own tour. I’m making moves. I’m taking care of people and that’s something I never thought I’d be doing when I was in the sixth, seventh, or eight grade.”

In addition to speaking on the importance of education, 2 Chainz also encouraged those in attendance to worry about themselves and not fall victim to worrying about what the next person is doing.

“Do what you need to do to get to the next level,” he said. “Don’t be worried about nobody else. Don’t be worried about following nobody else. Don’t be worried about none of that stuff. All you got to do, all you got to do is do your job and worry about yourself and you’ll be good. Trust me on this one. Don’t worry about the person in front of you, next to you, none of that stuff. Just be concerned with what you got going on. And that’s what it is, man.”

While speaking on B.O.A.T.S. III during an appearance on MTV’s “RapFix Live” last week, 2 Chainz commented on being a rapper who embraces the fact that he finished school when the opposite seems to be the norm.

“You know I come from Atlanta. I finished school,” the Playaz Circle rapper said. “You know, a lot of people like to talk about how they dropped out and made it. You know, I went to school and made it. So, it’s just a few elements in there, but I still have that ratchet side.”
