Drake Mentions "Carter V" On Twitter

Drake mentions "Carter V" on Twitter, a likely reference to Lil Wayne's next album.

Drake mentioned Carter V in a Twitter update made yesterday (February 9).

No official word has been issued regarding what Drake meant by his Twitter update, which simply said "CARTER V." Some have speculated that this hints at Lil Wayne's work on Tha Carter V, a continuation of the rapper's Carter projects.

The most recent installment of Lil Wayne's Tha Carter series, Tha Carter IV, was released in 2011. Tha Carter IV received a 3 out of 5 X rating on HipHopDX

"Depending on how you want to gauge it, we’re witnessing the fourth incarnation of Lil Wayne," HipHopDX said at the time. "First there was the borderline kiddie-rapper. Then there was the circa 2005 version, who made many listeners begrudgingly admit that Wayne suddenly started rhyming his ass off. And of course, there was superstar Weezy—endorser of Auto-tune, impregnator of Pop culture vixens and a man prone to the occasional drug-addled haze, a faux Rock album, and still rhyming his ass off if he felt like it. Through each version, even Lil Wayne’s detractors have secretly hoped for that complete, signature album where he reconciled the superior lyrical abilities found on his earlier mixtapes with the chart success he’s found on his last few solo outings. Unfortunately, Tha Carter IV is not that album."

In June 2013, Lil Wayne spoke about his hopes to retire after Tha Carter V's release

"My next album isn't Tha Carter V because I think I have to work on other albums with my pop Birdman and things like that," Wayne said at the time. "But, after Tha Carter V, I hope I can retire."

Drake's Twitter update regarding Carter V can be found below.

... I hope Wayne is done. I'm glad he's off the map. He never was on, so how the fuck can he "fall off" ??? I don't wanna have to listen to another Lil Wayne project to SEE WHAT MAKES PEOPLE THINK HE'S SO GOOD FOR, and be DISAPPOINTED ONCE AGAIN.

It seems that the Cash Money Music Group is going through another transitional phase. There has been a mass exodus of their artist in the past 12 months, due to financial and promotional disputes. Drake has a distribution deal with Warner Bros for his OVO imprint and only has to turn in 2 more albums to Cash Money and Universal/Republic. Nicki Minaj is talking a partnership with Irvin Lorenzo, so Cash Money is probably about to see another sharp decline.

    • Anonymous

Nope. TDE ain't gonna decline, YMCMB are.

    • Marky Mark

No artist left cash money in the past 12 months. Drake still has 2 albums left and wants to stay at ymcmb forever. Ovo's at Warner Bros to pay respect to his and birdman's friend, rick ross, who has a deal with atlantic for his label (part of WMG). Nicki's also planning to stay at ymcmb and they are planning to release another compilation album next month. TDE is the one that's gonna decline.

"Lil Wayne's prime, was secretly Gillie The Kid's!!!" Did Gillie The Bum perform those songs in front of millions of people? Did he get credited with going double platinum? Where's Gillie's 100 mill?

I understand that Drake is arguably the most gifted artist in hip-hop history, but articles like this aren't necessary. This ain't news.

Eminem>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Lil Gayne. end of story. a dumbass even knows this.

Wayne has fallen off a bit, but remember, he's drugged out and going through I don't care phase. If he clears his head and puts more effort into Tha Carter V, his sales will sky rocket again.

"Wayne getting worse? He's getting better. Eminem's the one that's falling off. Wayne was the only reason why recovery did well and now MMLP 2 is about to sell half that." 1. Wayne is getting worse. 2. Eminem's not falling off, Wayne is. 3. Wayne was not the reason why Recovery sold well. Em had two singles that went to #1 and none of them had Wayne on it. 4. MMLP2 sold more than INAHB2.

If you're gonna call Eminem a pop star, you should also call Wayne a pop star. Besides, Eminme is more hip-hop than Wayne.

    • Anonymous

Eminem's a popstar while wayne is a hiphop star, who generally sells less than popstars.

Wayne has been an embaressmet to hip hop for a long long time and I fucks with the carter 2 album its a classic. These days I don't even download waynes albums I pretend he don't exist that's how badly he fell off

  • Return Of Bobyahed2dis

This is what hip hop needs right now. After a dismal 2nd half of 2013, Wayne is off to provide his fans with some more street hip hop to make up for a disappointing year of hip hop.

"he won't outsell MMLP2, sorry. both Lil Wayne and Eminem are past their prime. at one point Wayne did run the rap game. that's because he was releasing a single or was featured on a single like once or twice a month. he's fallen off the map now, and he'll never regain the status that he had a few years ago. if Drake hasn't surpassed him yet, he will soon." Wayne is just getting better and better. Eminem's the only one that's fallen off when he worked with pop stars. Wayne went gold with IANAHB2. He's still doing fine. And Drake will surprass wayne when he retires. Drake's already just as good as wayne.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Wayne getting worse? He's getting better. Eminem's the one that's falling off. Wayne was the only reason why recovery did well and now MMLP 2 is about to sell half that.

      If anything, Wayne's getting worse.

    • Anonymous

@Anonymous True, but remember, much more people buy Tha Carter's than his other albums and he puts up a lot more for his Tha Carter albums than other albums that he has made because he holds the better songs for his Tha Carter's. He won't outsell MMLP2, but he will easily go platinum.

"Wayne went gold with IANAHB2." ^ Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP sold 1,891,000 copies in the United States. "Wayne is just getting better and better. Lil wayne aint been tight since the block is hot dayz,(he really wasn't tight then) carter 3 waz straight and some of those mixtapes he had some joints on there, but overall lil wayne is a clown, his whole label mates are better than him, Nicki,Drake and Tyga are wayyy better, all wayne does is spit silly punchlines, to be a goat, u have to do more than spit punchlines, rap game wack now, nowadays its all about Kendrick,Drake, and Nicki as far as overall new generation superstar status goes.

  • FactsMachine

DRAKE is a bigger HOMO than Michael Sam, and Michael Sam is a BIG homo. That's straight LOGIC.

  • So Icy Boi!

as a close friend of Lil Wayne, I can confirm he is straight, and kissing Birdman is a natural father-son moment. on the other hand Tha Carter V gonna sell 1 million copies at its first week. Lil Wayne was the best selling artist of the decade. swag

"Sadly it will sell better than many superior artists sell, half of the people that buy Drake's album bought Weezy's albums at one time" Sales only matter to the record company, Wayne doesnt need the money and rappers only make pennies off album sales so just try to focus on the music and not on the sales.
