This week, the Grammys continued to impact the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. 2014 Grammy Nominees, a compilation album, remained in the Top 2. Kendrick Lamar and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis also saw gains this week, likely in part due to their Grammy Awards nominations and their performances. Elsewhere, Andy Mineo placed in the Top 15 with his Never Land EP and Isaiah Rashad landed in the Top 40 with his Cilvia Demo

2014 Grammy Nominees Remains #2

Beyonce, who performed at the Grammys, fell to the #5 spot from her #4 position last week, but her sales were steady with a 0 percent change. Andy Mineo’s Never Land EP Lands At #13

Andy Mineo, who categorizes himself as a Christian rapper, landed in the #13 spot this week with his Never Land EP. The project sold 25,931 units in its first week of availability. Mineo made headlines in January when he criticized other rappers who are Christian. “I hope people listen to the music,” he said during an interview with MTV. “Don’t write it off because there is a Christian doing it and it’s been labeled that way, because if I’m honest with you, Christian rap for the most part has been corny.” Soon after, Mineo wrote an apologetic letter on Facebook. “I definitely could have chosen my words more carefully to consider my audience better in this interview,” Mineo wrote. “I’m learning. My apologies go out to anyone who may be offended by some of my statements on air. I appreciate those that have taken the time to call out error in love. Pray for me as I continue to grow and learn to be an effective missionary in hip hop culture.”

Isaiah Rashad’s Cilvia Demo Strikes At #40

Isaiah Rashad’s TDE debut release, Cilvia Demo, landed in the #40 slot this week. The project sold 8,534 copies in its first week of sales. Cilvia Demo received a 4 out of 5 X rating in its HipHopDX review. “One BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher rhyme is all it took to catapult Chattanooga, Tennessee native Isaiah Rashad into the mainstream consciousness,” HipHopDX said of the album. “Ultimately though, it was not a case of what he said, but who he said it with—appearing alongside the rising in Rap prominence, Top Dawg Entertainment crew—that mattered. However, it’s in recalling the moments that made us initially love another rapper (with a government name similar to Rashad’s) once known by two names—Common Sense—that makes his 14-track debut Cilvia Demo a hopeful sign for more intriguing and insightful material to come.”
