In an official statement made on behalf of adidas in early December, the company confirmed that rapper Kanye West would be joining the adidas family. News of Ye joining adidas came shortly after the Chicago lyricist expressed his frustration with Nike during a series of tour rants.

While speaking on Kanye’s partnership with adidas, rapper and “106 & Park” host Bow Wow expressed his excitement at the collaboration between the two, but also shared his belief that Kanye leaving Nike won’t have much of an effect on the brand he says “wills always be number one.”

“Obviously, he wasn’t happy with Nike. Of course, I mean, Kanye don’t hold his tongue for nobody,” Bow Wow said while speaking with Sneaker Watch. “He spoke about it…I think that Kanye feels like—I understand what he’s doing. He feels like he has the power to shift certain things. He’s definitely gonna try to get at them. You know what I mean? Why not? But Nike’s Nike. It’s gonna be hard to—you can’t stop that. You can’t stop this shit. Nike’s Nike. Nike will always be number one in the shoe buyer’s eyes regardless. It’s just how it is.”

Bow Wow did speak on Kanye’s accomplishments while at Nike, specifically the Nike Air Yeezys. He says the release of Ye’s collab with Nike was a huge moment for the Hip Hop community.

“It was dope to support a brother,” he said. “For the first time we seen a rapper sign with Nike. Nike don’t do that. And for that to happen was big. And I felt like everybody went out to support Hip Hop. That just shows how strong Hip Hop is in the culture. You got kids lined up to buy a rapper’s kicks. It was dope. You know what I’m saying? It was dope…It was like the first. So, anytime it’s the first, people want to be a part of history. People want a piece of history.”

Only a handful of details have been revealed in regards to Kanye’s partnership with adidas. During an interview with Chicago radio station 107.5 last year, the rapper revealed that he’s designed both men’s and women’s collections and 20 pairs of shoes.

And according to Bow Wow, he feels the rapper might assist adidas with their Y-3 collection, an exclusive collection of clothing and sneakers designed by Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto.

“I think it’s a smart move he went to adidas though. For Kanye, adidas is better,” Bow Wow said. “You got Y-3. Y-3 is a European, funky style—it’s just a funky style way of dressing of adidas. I see him going in there and cleaning that whole shit up. I think he’s gonna have a field day with it. I think the designers over there at Y-3…have that European taste that Kanye’s looking for. Even right now they shoes is all zipped up, no laces. Just like weird shit that you would be like ‘This is adidas?’ So, I think that Kanye—it’s not just adidas, I think he’s gonna trickle over to that Y-3 shit and launch his shoe like that.”

In December 2013, adidas confirmed rumors of a partnership with Kanye thanks to a statement that read, “For 2014, we welcome to the adidas family one of the most influential cultural icons of this generation, Kanye West. Well known for breaking boundaries across music, film and design and partnering with our history in street wear culture and leading innovations in sport, we look forward to creating a new chapter.”
