The music of soul icon Marvin Gaye has long served as a source of inspiration for a number of artists who have gone on to sample the late singer on their own records. Among the most recent projects to feature Gaye is the Amerigo Gazaway-created Yasiin Gaye, a work that serves as a mash-up between Gaye and Brooklyn lyricist Yasiin Bey.

A description of Yasiin Gaye, which serves as the first addition to Gazaway’s *Soul Mates* series, can be found on the producer’s website, AmerigoMusic.com.

“Building the album’s foundation from deconstructed samples of Gaye’s Motown classics, Gazaway re-orchestrates the instrumentation into new productions within a similar framework,” reads a description provided on AmerigoMusic.com. “Carefully weaving Bey’s dense raps and Gaye’s soulful vocals over his new arrangements, the producer delivers a quality far closer to Gaye’s famous duets than that of a ‘mashup’ album.”

In addition to Gazaway, other artists who have sampled Gaye include Juelz Santana who sampled the crooner’s 1973 hit “Let’s Get It On” on his “Let’s Go” record. Cincinnati, Ohio rapsters Bone thugs-n-harmony, Queensbridge emcee Nas, and countless other artists have also sampled the late musician.

News of the release of the Yasiin Gaye album comes months after the family of Marvin Gaye threatened to sue singer Robin Thicke over his record “Blurred Lines” due to alleged similarities between the song and Gaye’s “Got To Give It Up.” The family’s reported threats ultimately led to Thicke filing a lawsuit against Bridgeport Music and Gaye’s family.

Yasiin Gaye is currently slated for release on February 25. The album’s lead single, “Inner City Travelin’ Man,” can be streamed below.
