After last week’s Top 10 saw 50 Cent at #1 with a Kendrick Lamar remix following close behind at #2, this week the artists switch spots. A years old Lamar song, “Kurupted,” rose the ranks from its placement on the list at #8 last week to the top spot this week. 50 Cent’s “This Is Murder Not Music” manages to hang onto a spot in the Top 5 while a Young Buck remix of the track shot up to #2. The Top 3 is closed out by TDE’s latest signee’s recent single, “RIP Kevin Miller,” which appears on the tracklist for his upcoming EP.

The rest of the Top 10 also includes a posse cut from DJ Kay Slay—alongside Fat Joe, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Sheek Louch and others—as well as new visuals from Childish Gambino and Chance The Rapper.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Kurupted” Tops The List

Despite “Kurupted” having been recorded more than four years ago, Kendrick Lamar’s recently resurfaced track climbed from the #8 spot last week to the top of the list this week. “Kurupted,” which was reportedly recorded in 2009, first appeared on a 2011 compilation mixtape of unreleased Kendrick Lamar material (cleverly titled Unreleased). With an obvious nod and several references to the West Coast by-way-of Philly legend Kurupt, Lamar drops three verses of Compton-themed bars. Besides Kurupt himself, whom Kendrick references late in the song by his nickname Young Gotti, Kendrick drops mention of other Cali legends in the second verse. “Been the truth since Snoop and Tha Pound was fuckin’ over Ruthless / Young and I’m ruthless, 21 with 21 guns, shotties that’s looted from Pac, lyrical cyclops,” he raps.

Young Buck Adds A Verse To 50 Cent’s “This Is Murder Not Music”

Released from an 18-month prison sentence in October of 2013, Young Buck has released a slew of new music this past week, mostly in the form of remix verses. Despite original speculations of an alleged falling out with his former G-Unit boss, Buck’s remix of “This is Murder Not Music” finds the two on the track together (officially or otherwise). Keeping to the song’s aggressive theme, Buck raps about prison, money, and eventually drops a threat of G-Unit retaliation for the recent death of affiliate Mazaradi Fox. “Fuck your life it’s either mine or yours / Concrete floors, I still feel I’m behind them doors / I want war, I’m re’ed up, fatigued up / I’m getting fast money, but I need to speed up,” he raps on his verse. “Put some bodies in a box for Mazaradi Fox,” he continues, “New York, when I get dead I need to hear a lot of shots.”

TDE’s Isaiah Rashad Releases New Music

Now officially slated to appear on Isaiah Rashad’s upcoming Cilvia EP, which is scheduled to be released on January 28, the Tennessee rapper released  “RIP Kevin Miller”  as a promotional single earlier this week. After telling listeners to “wake up” over the song’s hook, Rashad uses the second verse to wax poetic on his dreams of making music. “Used to think my ambition was a scheme, I defy’em / You can too, if you get up off your ass, fuckin’ try it,” he raps.

In an interview with HipHopDX earlier this week, Rashad talked about the effect that signing with TDE and being surrounded by its artists has had on him. “They taught me to be sure of myself, and be critical but not over think,” he said. “They encourage you as an artist to be yourself. That’s the only way you’ll fit in with everybody anyways. Of course, when you’re Kendrick [Lamar], Ab-Soul or ScHoolboy Q, they’re real serious about their craft and they got a vision. They teach you to have a vision for yourself and have an idea of what you want to be and what you want to do.” The Chatanooga emcee also confirmed that he’ll release an album this year besides his upcoming EP. “I’ll be dropping a project this year, yeah. Right now I’m just focusing on the Cilvia EP,” he said.
