DJ Maseo’s son Tre Mason has announced that he will declare for the NFL draft, forgoing a final season as an Auburn football player. 

“It’s been my dream since I was young, and I’m a dream chaser,” Mason said, as per ESPN. “I’m just trying to make a dream into a reality.”

Mason’s coach, Gus Malzahn, spoke about his potential.

“The [NFL] is getting one of the tougher individuals in all of college football,” Malzahn said. “He can run between the tackles. He has great courage. He played his best games in the biggest games, and he’s a good receiver out of the backfield, also.”

On January 6, De La Soul’s DJ Maseo saw his son Tre Mason’s Auburn football team lose 34-31 to Florida State in the BCS championship game held in Pasadena, California
