Wu-Tang Clan affiliate Shyheim turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday (January 8) in connection with a fatal hit-and-run automobile accident which killed a 29-year-old man named Felipe Avila on New Year’s Day, according to SI Live. Shyheim is expected to face a class D felony of leaving the scene of a fatal accident, according to SI Live‘s sources.
Shyheim was reportedly driving a friend’s 2003 Volvo S80 when he allegedly ran a stop sign and hit Avila’s vehicle before also colliding with a parked Dodge Ram. Shyheim is being accused of getting out of the Volvo and running away from the scene. According to SI Live’s sources, Shyheim left blood in the Volvo and the driver’s side airbag.
Shyheim was out on bail at the time of the crash. He was arrested in April on gun and drug possession charges. Shyheim has served a two-year prison sentence for second-degree attempted robbery. In 1998, he was given probation after he was found in possession of a gun that had been stolen from the Los Angeles Police Department, as per SI Live.

In April, Shyheim spoke with HipHopDX about his April arrest.
“I just want people to know, of course you know the NYPD have a history of not flying straight” Shyheim said at the time. “Pretty much that. I remain that I’m innocent and I will fight it to the end, that’s basically all that I can do. There’s a lot of illegal stuff that went down in the procedures that wasn’t supposed to take place but my attorneys is on it and you know we gonna fight. I’m not the first person that this happened to, there’s a lot of innocent people in the prison system today and it’s just sad but true [that] you’re guilty until you’re proven innocent. I just really want to thank everybody for their support, the whole Hip Hop community [and] my family and friends for just being supportive.”
On January 7, Shyheim posted a YouTube video thanking fans for support and requesting money for legal fees. “I’m in a lot of trouble right now and I need help,” he says in the video. The clip can be found below.
