Asher Roth Announces "Retro Hash" Project

Asher Roth posts a video on his YouTube page about his forthcoming "Retro Hash" project.

Asher Roth posted a video on his YouTube page today (December 18) announcing the release of his Retro Hash project. The collection is slated to be released in 2014.

The music accompanying the video is from the song “Pot Of Gold,” which features singing before Roth begins rapping for a few lines. The 54-second clip ends soon thereafter.

Asher Roth was mentioned by Eminem on “Asshole,” a cut from his The Marshall Mathers LP 2. The Detroit rapper appears to reference Asher’s “As I Em” song and calls out the Pennsylvania emcee.

On the Skylar Grey-assisted record, Eminem raps, “Quit actin' salty, I was countin' on you to count me out / Ask Asher Roth when he round-a-bout dissed me to shout me out / Thought I was history / But goddamn honkey, that compliment's like backhanding a donkey."

Last month, Asher Roth responded to the diss during an appearance on Hot 97’s the Juan Epstein show. He said that instead of being offended by Eminem on “Asshole,” he was amazed by the mention.

“It’s cool, man,” Asher Roth said. “I thought it was pretty amazing…There’s nothing really there. It’s like I’ve never really met him. I don’t know him personally."

Excited for this. Its a shame most people only know him as "The I Love College guy". Pabst and Jazz, Seard For Grau: Quince and Cranberries and Rawth EP are great.

Asher has always been dope. It's sad he's underrated but I think he played it smart. Crap fans ate up his "I love college" track and only know him for that... better fans that checked for him know he keeps that lyrical shit on mixtapes where it belongs. Nobody would of liked Asleep in the bread aisle if it was like his mixtapes, he wouldn't of got any shine at all without a good solid pop-hop album that appeals and is all pretty and catchy and radio friendly. Nobody would know his name if he didn't make that album so appealing and have that one memorable hit. I don't even think he sold out... I think he made an incredible mainstream album without making it too stupid and retarded. It was a fun listen, a good party album and overall dope from top to bottom. If I want his lyrical ability and his skills as an MC i'll bump his mixtapes where he spits that nasty ugly shit that I love. But he's a dope artist, he can make good pretty music and he can make ugly as fuck dope rap records with actual lyrical and flow ability and wit. He even blends the two quite well but segregates them nicely. My only problem with this guy is he doesn't release enough music... although quality over quantity at the end of the day, and I've never heard this kid come up short on the shit he pops up on outta nowhere. Dude is obviously a perfectionist with label issues... they need to get this project dropping.

agreed. He's been pigeonholed as a college rapper because of that song. His mixtapes are beyond dope.

I agree. Asher is dope, but I think he may have fukked himself over with that "I Love College" song of his because everybody seemed to think he was just some college punk rapper. If you listen to his shit after that you would come to realize that he is actually a credible mc.
