Maino Demands Apology From Trinidad James During Phone Call

Maino tells Trinidad James he owes the city of New York an apology, James says he plans on releasing a video.

During a private phone call, New York rapper Maino and Atlanta emcee Trinidad James were able to speak to one another directly in regards to comments James’ made about New York rap during a performance last week. In the nearly six-minute long recording, Maino initiates the conversation by speaking on the aggressive tone he feels the “All Gold Everything” rapper took while sharing his thoughts on New York rap.

“What you saying now is different from what you was saying on stage,” said Maino. “When you said—and I studied that whole thing loud and clear, my nigga. When you said ‘Yo, we run y’all musically and I ain’t trying to start nothing, but if you want to do something we can do it cause I don’t give a fuck.’ You took away from whatever your opinion was. Whatever your opinion was, you unvalidated it right there in that spot. You started talking some gangsta shit. You understand what I’m saying? Never in the history of my city has a nigga step foot on a New York City stage and disrespected our city like you did. Like this ain’t about me trying to be a bully or me trying to punk you or none of that. It’s about right and wrong…You need to apologize to my city, my nigga.”

After Maino was able to air out his thoughts on the situation and James’ comments, James gave his take on the matter and even quoted the late Malcolm X as he commented on being passionate about telling the truth.

“You can’t get caught up at how the media puts something out,” said James. “When I went to do my show and I stepped out on that stage, brother, I said a lot of shit. And chose to only show you that part. Because by that time when I was talking and saying what I was saying, it was niggas in Brooklyn, niggas from Brooklyn talking about ‘preach, preach, preach’…I’m passionate about the truth, brother. And sometimes that’s a good thing, sometimes that’s a bad thing…Malcolm X said that ‘All I care about is the truth, it don’t matter who tell it.’ That’s what I live by.”

When questioned by Maino about releasing an apology, James hinted at the release of a video, but didn’t provide any details on the specifics of the visual. The Brooklyn lyricist added that if James does release the video he’ll have his respect.

“What I’m trying to get you to understand is what you saying to me right now makes sense, but what you said on that stage was something different…At the end of the day I been there before,” said Maino. “We all been on stage. We all kinda over-talk sometimes…You went to a different place and I respect if you made that tape because that’s all I want.”

This week’s phone conversation between Maino and James stems from comments the Def Jam signee made during the Converse Rubber Tracks show in New York. During his set, James recalled “when New York rap was the shit” and stated that the South runs New York musically.

Following James’ comments, Maino has remained the most vocal in his response and even criticized those in New York for allowing James to make such remarks.

Who is Maino and Trinidad James? Maino looks like someone who could barely afford a ticket to a Young Jeezy concert he's hanging out at. And Trinidad James is the personification of "ugly" and "stupid".

You can tell how judgmental someone is by looking at a comment? Wow, that's great, because by looking at your comment you're some humorless dimwit who should go sit down in some vinegar and scream "Daddy".

You can tell how much money someone has by looking at a picture? Wow, that's great, because by looking at your comment you're some judgmental asshole who should go sit down somewhere and stfu.

The sooner Maino starts working at White Castle or-- better yet-- Auburn State Prison, the sooner black Brooklyn culture makes it's comeback.

It's always "my nigga" and "my brother" when they're actually confronted. These rappers are like the one city kid that goes to a suburban school. They walk around rough and tough when there's nothing but punks around, but they don't act like that in the real hood.

  • Sar B-child

U became an expert from studying a tape? An amateur tape at that? didnt even see the full monologue dude. Cool points deducted from Maino, just for addressing the clown!

  • mal617

  • Dave Thomas

What a couple of whiny bitches. Instead of acting like a couple of dumb children these two should get together at their local Wendy"s to enjoy a delicious Baconator and hash out their problems.

  • Sensaye Sixkiller

How the fuck is it a 'private conversation' if it's recorded and played for the public? That's some punk shit man. These rappers gotta stop letting the media make monkeys out of 'em.

  • Anonymous

Bullshit outrage. There's more important things to worry about living in NY than your feelings about what a rapper said.

  • Anonymous

I just dont understand as man how you back down from another man. TJ is wack and he just made the ATL look really weak.

"Never in the history of my city has a nigga step foot on a New York City stage and disrespected our city like you did." um, Snoop Doggy Dogg and Dr Dre at the Source/MTV/whatever the fuck awards in 1995?

remember people...........when the tape comes out they both will be in a better place.

Maino was a rapist in prison so don't fuck with him

  • YAYO

The way these niggas put on theatrics..SMH. You'd swear these cats were wrestlers in the WWF or something.

  • Ren

Yes New York, U are the Hip Hop Mecca. But quit being so damn touchy. U don't like it, take it to the playing field and spit bars to show and prove who the best is. (And better than those mostly weak responses to Kendrick's 'control' verse.)

  • Wow

This guy Maino has a fucking stuttering problem! Get over it you 40 year old gangsta, you flopped and so will Trinidad James. The old people who run New York is the governor and the mayor you dumb fucks.

  • AYO

You know what's funny about all of this? The Kendrick lamar controversy got a lot more attention than this incident manly because he was trying to envoke the spirit of competition back into NY hip hop, and less that two months later, it died. Now, TJ drops a bomb in Brooklyn, and all of a sudden, everyone's silent on the matter, because everything that a wack rapper from Atlanta said about the A running New York was right on the money. How ironic is that shit, for real? This incident only caught a lot of flack, but the more this story is expounded upon, the less anybody really cares. Maino is NOT the official statesman for NY hip hop, so why doesn't he just let it go? If he really wanted to prove that NY hip hop is still alive and kicking, then maybe it's time to take action & stop bitching and motivate your people to take our music from the greedy, money hungry radio stations and put things into out own hands. That's the problem with a majority of our people - we have no idea how to initiate action, we think a whole bunch of griping and rely too much on other wealthy black folk to solve our problems. (i.e. Jay Z & Barneys)

    • AYO

I'm saying that a lot of things have to be factored in: the fans, the corporations, the shifting times that we live in, etc.

    • Psh

Ur right about maino, but the whole taking action thing. What can he or anybody really do about it? They dont control what songs the radio stations play the record companies do, they pay the radio stations to play there wack ass music. Whose fault is that? Not new york rappers, bitch please

before I looked at the check ov $4526, I have faith that my friend woz actualie erning money parttime on their apple laptop.. there best friend has been doing this 4 only about 14 months and resently repaid the mortgage on their place and bourt Ford. look at this website... www.Fb39.com Where do you think David Blaine gets his magical powers from? Lemme guess, Hogwarts or Princeton or some shit? WRONG! David Blane gets all his powers from Yeezus.

  • Not Impressed

I swear a lot of these rappers are caught up in some gangster fantasy land or something. Why do they all think they're some kind of big crime bosses or representative of cities just because they rap? The NYPD will still hunt your dumb black ass down just like they would Trinidad James, so why are you acting like you're worth more there then he is, and it's "your city"? So many black Americans here are full of anger and they bully other black people because they're afraid of the people they really want to take their anger out on, it's really sad. What Maino needs to do is use the bit of money he made from rapping and use it to go back to school. He's a 40 year old "gangster" with a nonexistent fanbase and rap career, going nowhere in life. I'm not impressed

  • two cornballs

    who cares. stupidity

  • Tony Homo

What about the 165-minute phone sex session? Honestly, I don't think Trinidad James is that attractive, but to each their own.
