Jay Z To Move Forward With Barneys Partnership

Jay Z says The Shawn Carter Foundation is slated to receive 100 percent of all sales from the Barneys partnership as well as additional funds from the corporation.

Jay Z released a statement yesterday (November 15) saying that he is set to move forward with his Barneys partnership as he awaits the findings of investigations launched regarding racial profiling by the company.

"In the past several weeks two separate investigations were launched as a result of the wrongful detention of Trayon Christian and Kayla Phillips," Jay Z said in the statement posted on lifeandtimes.com. "My team has been privy to the status of the Barneys third party consultant investigation. In continuing our research, we also contacted the New York State Attorney General’s office for the status of their investigation into both Barneys and Macy’s. Those findings are not yet available."

"While I await the findings of the Attorney General’s Office, I have agreed to move forward with the launch of BNY SCC collection under the condition that I have a leadership role and seat on a council specifically convened to deal with the issue of racial profiling," Jay continued in the statement. "I am in a unique position to use my voice to affect change to this disturbing issue. The easy position would have been to walk away and leave policy making to others hoping that someone addresses the problem. I will not leave the outcome to others. I will take this into my own hands with full power to recommend, review and revise policies and guidelines moving forward. I am choosing to take this head on."

In September, Jay Z announced a partnership with Barneys titled “A New York Holiday.”

In October, the New York Daily News reported two separate incidents in which Barneys allegedly committed discrimination against two African American customers Jay Z named in his recent statement, Trayon Christian, 19, and Kayla Phillips, 21. Both alleged victims said they were questioned by New York Police Department officials as suspects of credit card fraud.

Also in October, Brooklyn, New York resident Derick Bowers launched a petition asking Jay Z to cut ties with Barneys as a result of the racial profiling allegations.

Shortly after the petition was launched, Jay Z spoke on the matter with a statement.

“I move and speak based on facts and not emotion," Jay Z said. "I haven’t made any comments because I am waiting on facts and the outcome of a meeting between community leaders and Barneys. Why am I being demonized, denounced and thrown on the cover of a newspaper for not speaking immediately? The negligent, erroneous reports and attacks on my character, intentions, and the spirit of this collaboration have forced me into a statement I didn’t want to make without the full facts. Making a decision prematurely to pull out of this project, wouldn’t hurt Barneys or Shawn Carter, but all the people that stand a chance at higher education. I have been working with my team ever since the situation was brought to my attention to get to the bottom of these incidents and at the same time find a solution that doesn’t harm all those that stand to benefit from this collaboration."

Jay Z's The Shawn Carter Foundation Slated To Receive 100 Percent Of All Sales From Barneys Partnership

In this week's statement, Jay Z also said that The Shawn Carter Foundation is set to receive 100 percent of all sales from the Barneys partnership.

Previously, it was announced that Jay Z's foundation would receive 25 percent of sales.

"It will now receive the additional 75% of Barneys’ sales, totalling 100% of all sales from BNY SCC," Jay Z said in his most recent statement. "Along with 100% of sales from the collaboration, the Foundation will receive an additional 10% of all retail sales from Barneys New York stores nationwide and Barneys.com on November 20th."

Jay-Z only cares about Jay-Z. Black people should boycott Barney's and never spend one red cent there again and plus protest in front of their stores on how young Black customers were treated. Not relying on sellouts like Jay-Z to be our voice.

  • Happy are the poor

Happy are the poor with emotions, happy are the poor when you can't feed like them, happy are the poor when you sit and hope like them with out doing it for your self, happy are the poor when you're black and think you can't get better with your self, happy at the poor with poor spirit. But every poor person want to get that bucks and stay sad, how poor is that?

lol @ ppl who wanted Jay Z to do the work for you. Tell us why you are really mad. This was never a Jay Z issue this was a Barneys issue, instead of organizing and going at Barneys for their fuckery, you decided to try and hide your voices behind Jay Z thinking it would much knowing full well that the best Jay Z would do is get black ppl from shopping at Barneys which in turn wouldn't do much for racial profiling. Fact is your opinion of Jay Z wouldn't change whether he done anything or not and I think the man knew the same soo he wasn't gonna act on emotion compared on you lot

    not behind jay on this.

for the naive kids in the audience defending jay-z: why do MOST rich people have "charity organizations"? hint: it has nothing to do with charity.

  • Money First

If you want to make change then you get closer to your enemy not far away! I know that's a hard concept for many of those who don't understand how to maneuver strategically but you can never lead with your emotions!!

dont wait for jay z to make moves for you people who are offended by their actions. say that he ended the partnership. ok, cool. barneys lost an endorsement deal. do you think that they are hurt financially or are going out of business? progress, real progress is when a group is organized to march in front of that store demanding the employers in the center of this scandal to get fired. real progress is organizing an AGGRESSIVE boycott of the store. real progress is not waiting on jay z, clicking and dragging to see if he did something. thats passive shit.

This Camel Faced Faggot got so defensive once the media started attacking him. He reacted that way because he knew he was a hypocrite and in the wrong. YOU SOLD YOUR SOUL FOR RICHES, YOU CAMEL FACED BITCH HOV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nuff said...

If niggas really think jay aint gonaa profit off of this, they stupid. Jay z dont care about black ppl or the black struggle

    • Anonymous

The article even says he's getting "additional funds" outside of the money he's supposedly donating. If he wasn't getting paid in some way, he would have just took this thing to another store with no issue. He's a sellout who will do anything for a buck.

  • OnlyHipHop

I guess when you're a icon you disregard your people & the injustices they have to deal with just because you have money & feel like I can pass for a white person in a way by just doing business with a company that is racially profiling people of color. Jay is fucked up for that. If people don't get outraged I guess they like being taken advantage of and don't care that someone of his status can just get a pass. It's not right no matter whether he was poor (having nothing) or rich as hell like a (oil billionaire).

  • Beyonce

As he should. What he's doing is for charity; the Shawn Carter Foundation is for the kids. The two investigations are an entirely different matter. Ok, so the people involved are victims of racial profiling, which is cruel, BUT, the employees in question should be held accountable, NOT the store itself.
