Months after Sha’Keir Duarte, the cousin of crooner Frank Ocean, filed a lawsuit against singer Chris Brown after allegedly being injured during a brawl outside of a Los Angeles recording studio, Brown has responded with a lawsuit of his own.

HotNewHipHop.com reports that the Virginia songster has filed a counter lawsuit against Duarte. According to Brown, it was Duarte who instigated the fight that led to an alleged all-out brawl in the recording studio parking lot. The singer stated that Duarte, who he referred to as “aggressive and hostile,” threatened to kill him and punched and kicked him.

Duarte shared a different story than Brown’s with the release of his lawsuit earlier this year. In a copy of the lawsuit obtained by TMZ in August, Duarte says he received a permanent back injury after he was attacked by one of Brown’s bodyguards during the fight.

During the fight, he says Brown encouraged his bodyguard as he yelled, “Get that nigga…You just got your ass beat, and it’s all on camera.”

Duarte is reportedly suing Brown for $2 million.

In January, it was reported that Brown and Ocean fought in the parking lot of Westlake Studio after Ocean and his friends stopped Brown from leaving the studio’s parking area. Since then, the two artists have referenced one another in interviews. In an April interview, Brown stated that the Odd Future crooner was attempting to take up the “sympathy role.”

“There’s a lot of strategies people try to use when they’re up for awards,” Brown said during an interview with New York City’s Hot 97. “It’s the sympathy role. I don’t have to go that route. I just do my music and do my thing. For [Ocean], it’s whatever.”
