During an appearance on Forbez DVD Live, Tashera Simmons, the ex-wife of rapper DMX, shared the story of one of her more intense moments with the New York emcee.

In her story, Simmons detailed the occurrences that led up to DMX accidentally shooting his manager in the foot while at a hotel.

According to DMX’s ex, who recently released her “You Think You Know, But You Have No Idea” memoir, the rapper was holed up in a hotel room for several days while under the influence of drugs. His manager reached out to Simmons, who was seven months pregnant at the time, knowing that she was the only person who could convince DMX to leave the hotel room.

“X’s manager comes to my house looking for X,” said Simmons. “I’m like ‘Look, he’s not here. He’s at a hotel.’ They like ‘He got a show in two or three days.’ They panicking. X is, you know, up there in the dark. Cause that’s what I used to call it…And it was so sad because at that time I was so immune. He was only in the game for like a year. And he was just like ‘You know, I need you to go over there and get him. He needs to—whatever that he’s doing, he’s been in that room for like three days. And we need to calm him down.’ And everybody used to be scared to go when he was in that zone. Niggas didn’t really want to mess with him because he was paranoid. That’s what came with that drug. So, he would probably have a gat on his lap or something…When I came to the door, he always felt comfortable and he knew that—he trusted me. He was safe.”

Upon entering the hotel room, Simmons says the room was filled with smoke and an almost nauseating smell, along with an armed DMX. She was ultimately able to convince the rapper to leave the hotel room, but he became panicky once himself, his manager, and Simmons, had to make their way through a number of people present at the hotel for a conference.

“The whole vibe was just twisted,” said DMX’s ex. “And he opens up the door with the gun and I’m like—I’m not even phased. I’m like ‘Ah, come on, man’…The manager’s looking at me like, ‘We gotta go. We gotta go. We gotta get him out of here. Like can you get him out of here?’ So, I’m getting annoyed. So, I’m like ‘Yo, I’m pregnant. This smell is gonna affect the baby We gotta go.’ I’m kinda losing it though. So, X finally packs up. And he has his bookbag and he has like the gun, his gun in the bag, but he’s holding it…So, we get downstairs and he’s like panicking when he sees all the people. And he was like ‘Yo Tashera, somebody’s following me. I’m telling you. They this and that.’ And then the manager’s like about to lose it, scared to death. Next thing you know, we hear a pop. And the manager falls on the floor…I go down to the floor to see where the manager was hit at, which was the foot. And you see the bottom of X’s bookbag with smoke and a hole at the bottom.”

Simmons revealed that both she and DMX immediately left the scene and surprisingly made it through a police check point set up not too far from the hotel where the rapper was staying.

Throughout his music career, DMX has been plagued by similar incidents involving guns, drugs, and alcohol. Earlier this year, DMX was pulled over in South Carolina for driving under the influence. Video footage of the arrest was published shortly after news of DMX’s run-in with the police was made public.

Additionally, DMX made headlines again this year when a video of the rapper streaking in a Detroit hotel in August was released. He later told TMZ that his streaking was the result of a dare.

Despite both incidents, DMX plans on releasing a new studio album, which will reportedly include production from Swizz Beatz, in the future.

“Swizz and X are always working on a song,” said DMX’s publicist, Domenick Nati, in an exclusive statement to HipHopDX. “Swizz is producing several tracks on X’s album that he’s working on.”
