Fans hoping to catch a performance from R. Kelly, the self-proclaimed Pied Piper of R&B, at a Monroe, Louisiana event advertised as Ced’s Black Tie Affair, were reportedly hit with a performance from what many attendees said was a lip-synching, R. Kelly impersonator.

In addition to those in attendance witnessing a performance from an alleged impersonator, the man performing did not appear on stage until around 1 AM.

According to Billboard.com, those who attended the event, put on by promoter Cedric Johnson, paid $150 per ticket and are hoping to receive a refund.

“Advertisement online, through Ticketmaster, said that it was a ‘Ced’s All Black Affair, R. Kelly performing live,’ which did not happen last night,” said a woman who attended the show, while speaking with KNOE News. “It was an impersonator on stage, impersonating R. Kelly that may have sung every bit of four minutes and he did not even sing, he lip sung…We was scammed.”

According to the woman present at the show, the alleged phony R. Kelly even appeared at a local restaurant with two men who denied fans pictures.

“When you tried to approach him for pictures, the two guys that was with him also stated, ‘No pictures. Put your devices away. No pictures,’” she said. “They blocked from taking pictures. It just was not right.”

R. Kelly did perform in Southaven, Mississippi on October 27, but has yet to comment on whether or not he was present at Ced’s Black Tie Affair in Monroe.

The incident in Louisiana comes a matter of weeks before the scheduled release of R. Kelly’s next studio album, Black Panties. The album, Kelly’s twelfth, is slated for release on December 13.
