The 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards was a few weeks ago and one of the surprises during event was who took home the award for “Best New Artist for 2013.” Apparently, It was so much of a surprise for the winner that he wasn’t present at the ceremony.
Young Jack Thriller recently caught up with the award recipient, A$AP Ferg, as he explained why he wasn’t at the awards.
“I was surprised, I didn’t think I was going to win,” he said when asked about winning the award. “That’s why we wasn’t there, we didn’t know, we really didn’t know. I got caught up doing some other stuff but I wish I was there.”

The A$AP Mob artist also talked about his new award, which he says he believes validates him as one of the best out.
“It feel good, I felt like I was one of the greats,” he said. “It’s just proven to everyone else now.”
Ferg won “Best New Artist for 2013” at this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta. The A$AP Mob also had their own cypher during the awards, which included Ferg. A$AP Twelvy, A$AP Nast, A$AP Ant and A$AP Rocky also participated in the freestyle showcase.
