Eminem also made headlines by releasing “Rap God,” a new song off The Marshall Mathers LP 2. The selection references several Hip Hop artists who have influenced Eminem, including Rakim and N.W.A. Crooked I spoke with HipHopDX about what this song proves regarding Eminem’s prowess.

“It was crazy,” Crooked I said in an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “It’s just always refreshing to hear a super mainstream artist with bars and skills because a lot of these mainstream dudes that’s rapping out there is wack as fuck. So, here’s somebody who has all the success and has achieved so much in the game and he still has bars to bar you out the game. It’s real refreshing. He basically took the art of double-time rapping and displayed the many different ways you can do that. There’s different cadences you can use when you’re double-timing. He just displayed almost all of them on one song.”

“Nothing’s been the same since they dropped ‘Control’ / And tucked the sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes,” Kendrick Lamar says in his cypher verse. “Ha-ha, jokes on you / High-five, I’m bullet proof / Your shits will never penetrate / Pin the tail on the donkey, boy, you’ve been a fake.”

The full verse was released Tuesday (October 15) as part of the BET Hip Hop Awards.

After the verse was released, Kendrick Lamar was asked if the rhymes were aimed at Drake. Without confirming or denying, Kendrick Lamar told Sway In The Morning that he was “just having fun, as usual.”

Earlier this year, Kendrick Lamar mentioned Drake during his verse on Big Sean’s “Control.”

“I’m usually homeboys with the same niggas I’m rhymin’ with,” Kendrick Lamar says on the song. “But this is Hip Hop and them niggas should know what time it is / That goes for Jermaine ColeBig K.R.I.T.Wale / Pusha T, Meek MillA$AP RockyDrake / Big Sean, Jay Electron[ica], Tyler[, the Creator]Mac Miller / I got love for you all but I’m tryin’ to murder you niggas / Trying to make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas / [And that] they don’t want to hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas / What is competition? / I’m trying to raise the bar high.”

After the song was released, Drake was asked about the track during an interview with Billboard

“I didn’t really have anything to say about it,” Drake said. “It just sounded like an ambitious thought to me. That’s all it was. I know good and well that Kendrick’s not murdering me, at all, in any platform. So when that day presents itself, I guess we can revisit the topic.”

Drake also spoke about “Control,” when he said that he lost respect for Kendrick Lamar’s sentiments on the verse during a CRWN interview presented by MySpace.

“He didn’t come in there on some wild, ‘I’m in New York, fuck everybody,’” Drake said in September. “I almost wish he had come in there on that shit because I kind of lost a little bit of respect for the sentiment of the verse. If it’s really ‘fuck everybody’ then it needs to be ‘fuck everybody’. It can’t just be halfway.”

Charron Disses Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross In “B.E.T. Cypher Verse 2013”

This week, Charron released a video for a verse he says was meant to be featured at this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards cypher. Charron was originally meant to appear on a BET Hip Hop Awards cypher after winning a competition on BET’s “106 & Park.” However, the rapper was excluded from the filming of the cyphers.

Soon after he found out cyphers were filmed, Charron spoke with HipHopDX about his exclusion from the cyphers.

“I was avoided for months and given a response after the cypher was pre-filmed,” Charron said in an exclusive statement to HipHopDX. “At the end of the day, I was denied of a prize we contractually agreed on…I have proof that I’ve emailed people I’ve been dealing with. I made phone calls. I have records from June and earlier dates. They didn’t respond…They [later] told me they changed the format for this year, but if you look, there’s no format change. It’s the same as every year.”

When Charron released his verse, it contained several shots aimed at notable figures in music.

“I’ll handle Kendrick Lamar,” Charron raps in the video. “With a mothafuckin’ left like a Hendrix guitar / Crazy, people gonna shout / Accidentally cut off Usher’s dick while stabbin’ Bieber in the mouth / Whoa, probably shouldn’t spit that / Think it’s Ludacris? Then pay him to write your diss track / Rick Ross, what you really think? / Only substance that you have is in other peoples’ drinks / Hip Hop these days lost a lot of flavor / If you like the new school, you’re a Waka Flocka flamer / Big L, Big Pun, those are some rappers / Wish Chief Keef died instead of Ol’ Dirty Bastard.”
