This week, some additions broke into the Billboard Top 200 charts. MMG, for instance, broke into the Top 5 with the debut of its new compilation album, MMG Presents: Self Made Vol. 3. Another addition to the charts came by way of a different collaboration. Elvis Costello and The Roots teamed up to bring Wise Up Ghosts And Other Songs to the charts, breaking the album into the Top 20.
While The Weeknd’s Kissland opened with greater sales numbers than 2 Chainz’ B.O.A.T.S. 2: #MeTime last week, The Weeknd dropped further than Chainz this week. The Weeknd, who opened at #2 in its opening week, fell to #9 with approximately 26,000 units sold this week. A similar drop was seen with last week’s #1 selling album, Keith Urban’s Fuse, which dropped from #1 to #8 after selling approximately 31,000 units this week.
MMG Hits #4 With Self Made 3
MMG entered the charts this week at #4 with MMG Presents: Self Made Vol. 3. The album sold approximately 50,000 units in its first week. “It just feels good to see this come to fruition,” Rick Ross said of Self Made 3 during a recent interview with New York radio station Power 105.1. “It was just an idea, just a couple of years ago. For all of us, it’s just a little alley-oop leading into our own solo projects, our own solo albums that we want to give our people. It’s just fun to get together…We believe in putting out that work. That’s what keeps us at the top of this game. Compilations, for artists like ourselves, is always a good thing. When you hear these records and you hear the new artists we bringin’ to the folds, the new producers, all the different sounds, and it just give everybody a chance to shine in their own light. I love it.” The album was the highest Hip Hop debut on the charts this week.
2 Chainz’ B.O.A.T.S. 2: #MeTime Sails Into #7 In Its Second Week
Last week, 2 Chainz entered the charts at #3 with B.O.A.T.S. 2: #MeTime. This week, Chainz fell to #7 after selling approximately 35,000 copies of the album in its second week. Recently, Chainz spoke about album sales projections. “Of course I care,” Chainz said about sales. “I’m still gon’ grind it out. If it does 50,000, I’ll probably be mad as hell and do something like buy another car, make myself feel better…But at the same time, I know it’s a race and if anybody know me, it’s hard to really get me down, get me discouraged. I’m very optimistic.”
Elvis Costello & The Roots Appear On Charts With Wise Up Ghosts And Other Songs
The Roots and Elvis Costello teamed up for Wise Up Ghosts And Other Songs, an album that entered the charts at #16. Wise Up Ghosts And Other Songs sold approximately 18,000 units this week as it debuted on the charts. In January 2013, The Roots’ ?uestlove spoke about how the group’s collaboration with Costello came about. “It was really love at first sight,” ?uestlove said in the article. “The second time he came on [‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’], we surpassed the first one. So by the third time, he was like, ‘Let’s stop messing around and do something together.'” Costello has been behind several solo selections, such as “Watching The Detectives,” “Radio, Radio” and “Pump It Up.” This marks the group’s first collaborative project with Costello.
