Chicago wordsmith Kanye West may be most well-known for his skills on the mic and behind the boards, but according to Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz, West is also pretty skilled when it comes to the popular graphics editing program, Adobe Photoshop.
While speaking on the creation of his B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time cover art, which was crafted by West’s DONDA creative agency, 2 Chainz seemed quite impressed with the Yeezus rapper’s photo editing skills.
“People won’t believe how much thought goes into this stuff…Working with DONDA was good for the mind anyway,” said 2 Chainz. “A bunch of guys, young guys, with all these crazy ideas and crazy resources getting pulled from different areas. Actually, this cover right here, and I don’t even know if ‘Ye wants me to say it, but he actually…photoshopped. Like he did something. I didn’t know you could erase on the computer. This computer eraser. Move some stuff over. So, I was like ‘Man, you slick a geek. I didn’t know you was that smart.’”
2 Chainz later addressed the symbolism behind his cover art during his interview with Los Angeles radio station Power 106.
According to the Playaz Circle emcee, he opted for a white and gold theme this time since his last project boasted a primarily black and gold colorway. He also commented on the reasoning behind including a set of Cuban links on his album, an item he feels is “very symbolic in Hip Hop.”
“And the Cuban links, they mean—they’re very symbolic in Hip Hop period,” he explained. “Raekwon and Ghost had Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and it meant a couple of things as far as how tight the chain was and how tight the link was with the Cuban’s when you was dealing with the work and the trap and all of that. So, a couple of symbols that just says a lot of things.”
2 Chainz’ second solo album, B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time, will be released on September 10 and will include guest appearances from Drake, Lil Wayne, Fergie, T-Pain, and more.
