Lupe Fiasco Responds To Lawsuit Claiming He Allegedly Hid Money For Drug Kingpin

UPDATE: Lupe Fiasco, who was named in a lawsuit filed by the spouse of Charles "Chilly" Patton after allegedly hiding $9 million from the drug kingpin's soon-to-be-ex-wife, responds to the reports.

Chicago lyricist Lupe Fiasco has found himself at the end of a possibly damning lawsuit this week thanks to a suit filed by Inita Patton, the soon-to-be-ex-wife of Charles "Chilly" Patton. According to TMZ, Inita is suing Lupe based on her belief that the rapper helped the currently incarcerated Patton hide $9 million dollars in various bank accounts in the hopes of keeping his wife away from those particular funds during their divorce.

It is unclear how much Patton’s wife is seeking in her lawsuit, but she is hoping to reclaim the money she believes is rightfully hers.

A representative for Lupe did reach out to TMZ and had this to say in regards to the lawsuit, "There are no secret accounts and no illicit instructions."

Patton was sentenced to 44 years in prison in June 2007 after being caught with six kilos of heroin. The former drug kingpin, who is said to have been one of Lupe’s business partners, partnered with the rapper years ago to start their 1st and 15th record label.

The Food & Liquor 2 crafter even pays tribute to Patton on the Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool track “Free Chilly,” a record which features both Gemini and Sarah Green.

Although Lupe is typically quite vocal on Twitter, he has yet to bring up the lawsuit in any of his comments on the social networking site.

UPDATE: Lupe Fiasco has tweeted responses to this story. His tweets can be found below.

Fiasco also said that his "official response" to the reports are in his previously-released song, "Dope Francis (American Trap)."

"Although Lupe is typically quite vocal on Twitter, he has yet to bring up the lawsuit in any of his comments on the social networking site." Implying, being guilty has a way of making someone's mouth incapable of opening.

betches are such disgusting azz leeches. these h0es stay having a false sense of entitlement. betch never helped a guy earn his money, but they want a cut of it. FOH

If the guy is dumb enough to marry a gold digger then she has every right to go after his cash. Lupe is a retard for getting involved in this, especially since he knows no court in this world will believe sales from his concerts, shirts, and albums totaled 9 million.

    • chris

being a partner in lupe's record label after he realeased one album on a major label that would take most of the profit will only get you so far. as far as the law is concerned that money does not exist. she is not entitled to anything but the legal money which i doubt amounts to 9 million dollars. lupe probably doesnt even have 9 million dollars or just about that and chilly hasnt been working for 6 years...the beginning of lupe's career. F&F shut down in 2009 before even his 3rd album. in general, yes she would be entitled to money since he was dumb enough to not get the prenup, but in this case? FOH, she doesn't get jack.

Anyone claiming women who have not made any money during the span of their marriage (whether de-facto or not)are idiots. Family law and property settlement legislation is based on equity. It will not only take into account actual paid work undertaken, but also house work, child rearing and care (basically anything done in marriage whether it is building a house with your own hands, to changing nappies). Additionally, it will look at whether the partner is a dependent or not. The law is not sexist. If the husband is a dependent he will be entitled to a similar (or the exact same depending on the discrepancy exercised by the judge in each particular case)portion of the assets as a woman in his position would. Most cases end in a 50/50 split, and custody is determined in the same way but may vary depending on suitability. No court wants to prevent the kids from seeing either of the parents, in fact the courts attempt to ensure both parents get to see their children however judges have discrepancy in determining custody based on suitability (i.e. is one parent unsuitable to have custody of the child due to inappropriate living standards, drug use, family violence etc.). The law is fair and clear in this regard. Anyone claiming it is designed for women to rob their husbands is an idiot. The only reason women tend to receive money you idiots believe they are not entitled to is because they choose not to work and rather concern themselves with child care and domestic labor more so than men. Sociological studies show even in such cases, women spend more waking hours working than men with full time jobs. The only idiosyncrasy I see in this case is that the money may be: (a) drug money, (b) laundered, or (c) uncounted for by the tax office. In which case she would not be entitled to it (at least in accordance with the law of most countries who are within the Commonwealth - I am not too sure about American law but we tend to look down upon it as merely a persuasive argument at the most because after all Americans tend to be more stupid in their lawmaking than we are). Furthermore she is exposing herself to further liability in that she is aware of the existence of the money and possibly the nature of her husbands dealings. But all you guys should just quit and go read a book.

Yes, they are obviously to blame. If you live your life letting "the law" dictate moral behavior, you're an idiot. This country is clearly f*cked up. Weird how no one forces these h*es to take responsibility for themselves.

    • Anonymous

are the women to blame or the law that entitles them? think about that one for a minute.

  • Anonymous

the article clearly states that they have a label. where does dude's cut go since he is a part owner of an imprint still signed to a major label? that's what she's talking about.

So Mr. Goldberg is basically saying that he may got (presumably drug-related) money from Chilly Patton, but since the kingpin gave it as an investment to his career (label / albums / concerts etc.) that money now belongs to the rapper and should be considered totally clear? Am I understand this right?

It's not odd to find a conscious rapper that is or have been into that life way deeper than the rappers that glorify that life.

  • Lupe's a bitch nigga

  • jus10

Hmmm, let's see... Rich rapper... friend's angry ex-wife... Could she be lying about Lupe just to get a paycheck because he's rich? After all, she married a drug kingpin (probably for the money) and now that he's locked up, she wants someone else's money... and y'all falling for it!

    • Anonymous

^hahha true. but I think he really would give his money to manny. manny was w/ him from the come up.

    • Anonymous

When did Scarface ever give his money to Manny? Never, that's fiction and it wasn't just about the ex getting the money. smh at kids using movies as a street reference, what part of the game is that? Think outside the box for a change.

    • @foreal

If you were a drug kingpin you would give your money to another man to hide it from a woman? What part of the game is that? When did Scarface ever give his money to Manny?

    • foreal

if i was a drug king pin, i would do the same, especially if i had the feeling i was going to leave my wife.... She wasnt wit you in the stash house choppin up them bricks i hope lupe's money is right cuz they are going to go through his financial history with a comb.

    • Anonymous

or maybe that nigga really did try to keep millions away from his wife

  • Javi

Lupe has always been that dude against drug trade. Hope this doesn't screw up his image.

    • Anonymous

if you listen carefully, this was always the case. No one suspected anything when one of his best friends gets locked up for 44 years? Laundering. He turned it into a positive, and refused to promote it, but I think this was always in the background.

  • Take a hit

6 kilos of smack fuck that coke shit with heroin u get a customer for life.........44 years is long time tho risky business Lupe prolly the best mc from chi town ever respect to common tho

  • Anonymous

dude, this means Lupe is realer than any rapper, haha learn something from this Rozay Only French and 50 hustled, the rest acts

  • Anonymous

And this from the hypocrite who stands on his soapbox, complains about hip hop being a bad influence and tells us all how to live our lives lol Figures tho, the people who act the most self righteous always have a secret like this

    • Anonymous

I agree to a point. Its good he doesn't promote it, but by ignoring it, it does make him a bit of a hypocrite. Like for instance, a guy like saigon is in the same mindset as lupe in terms of positivism, but uses his past to show growth of character. Lupe sometimes has this holier than though attitude.

    • Anonymous

Guess people aren't supposed to grow up huh? If you look up Lupe's music before F&L you hear him talk about g shit. Is not like his afiliations are a big secret, you just got on when he became righteous, and now you think you think he's been exposed, as if his past make his current views less valid.

    • Anonymous

it says allegedly you cant take that angry poor bitches word as the truth

  • damndd

Lupe "I don't do drugs, I just profit off of, and condescend to users" Fiasco contributing more to chicago crime than Keef if this is true

    • Anonymous

if you truly believe anything chief keefs done is as bad as chilly, you're an idiot. chief keef is a rebellious teen in the hood...he'll grow out of it. Besides, by going into music he's already doing something more positive with his life. Its not like he's still in the streets doin that shit

    • Anonymous

nah damn is right. chief keef is at the bottom of the pole and just a teen. dealin heroin is a lot more damaging than chief keefs teen antics. if you truly believe that, youre an idiot thats distracted by entertainment.

    • Anonymous

chief keef is the definition of struggle bars

    • damndd

I listen to drill/trap music as much as Black Hippy, Killer Mike, Dead Prez, blah blah blah smart rapper credibility. I used to bump pre-Lazers Lu, and was even for his straight edge mentality. But his music fell off, and now this thing. SLR 2 & 3 were some struggle bars for attention.

    • Anonymous

im not stanning for lupe but you gotta be a tard baby if you listen to keef

    • foreal

contributing to crime by hiding money? yes it is for a drug dealer but i wouldnt say he is contributing to crime in chicago

    • damndd

HAH! can't actually defend the rapper you stan for, so you gotta go after my reading comprehension. it's cool.

    • Anonymous

and you probably use your index finger to read

    • damndd

That's better? This guy wants to call out Cheif Keef for essentially his teen antics and then make major profits off of poor drug users in Chicago. Who cares about glorifying shit, most the best music (beyond hip hop) talks about how good it feels to be on drugs, so why does this even matter. Besidessss, I would rather listen to 1000 "I Hate Being Sober"('s) than any Lupe's "Don't do drugs, do kickflips over Obama and go to school" raps anyday.

    • Anonymous

true but he dont glorify it

  • Anonymous

and all he do is preach motha fuckin phony
