Robin Thicke’s single “Blurred Lines” has been the #1 song on Billboard’s Hot 100 for seven weeks in a row. The T.I. and Pharrell assisted track recently shattered the record for highest radio audience ever. As of this week, the track has reached more than 242 million listeners, much more than the previous record of 188 million.
This milestone follows up “Blurred Lines” breaking the record for this years biggest-single week downloads (428,000 during the week ending on June 23.)
“Blurred Lines” is the first Robin Thicke song that has made it to the number one spot on BILLBOARD’s Hot 100. He surpassed Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s “Thrift Shop” for the longest stretch at #1 so far this year. “Thrift Shop” stayed atop the charts for six nonconsecutive weeks according to Billboard.
The record is an international success and has reached #1 in 80 countries around the world. “Blurred Lines” has been certified triple platinum with more than 3.5 million in sales to date. The visually stimulating video, directed by Diane Martel has about 113 million views.
Yesterday, (July 29) Grand Hustle Records founder T.I. was discussing the video’s controversial and nudity-filled elements with the ladies of ABC’s hit television show “The View”. They announced that they would be chopping it up with Robin Thicke on Friday, he will be a co-host of that show and fans can expect promotion of his forthcoming project. The 36 year-old crooner drops his sixth album Blurred Lines today.
Many media outlets believe the controversial video helped propel the single to the top of charts. MTV just announced that the music video may win “Video of The Year” at the 2013 VMAs; it’s competing against Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors,” Bruno Mars “Locked Out Of Heaven,” Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s “Thrift Shop” featuring Wanz, and Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble.”
Robin Thicke has worked with rappers like Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chainz, Busta Rhymes, and Lil Wayne, among others. The Beverly Hills, California-based artist is currently on a promo round promoting Blurred Lines. His upcoming appearances are below.
