It has been nearly four years since 50 Cent released a label-backed album. In that time, the Queens, New York superstar and G-Unit Records head was believed to be without a label to begin with. After moving his own label to EMI Distribution in 2010, the multi-platinum star was believed to be free of Shady/Interscope Records, where he released four solo albums dating back to 2003.
Speaking about the album believed to be titled Street King Immortal, 50 Cent recently explained his delays to MTV Rap Fix. “I don’t really need the money off of the record. I want the record to be right.”
Having been backed by Interscope Records for over a decade, 50 Cent confirmed his ongoing relationship with Jimmy Iovine’s label, but noted heavy personnel turnover. “[Interscope Records has had] a lot of staff changes, a lot of different people moving in and moving out,” said the rapper. Recently, Interscope became the latest home to Joie Manda, who left his post as Def Jam Records’ President to become ‘Scope’s President of Urban Music.

Comparing himself to a basketball player, 50 elaborated that he feels the proper supporting team is not in place. “I’ve been on a team where I take the ball out and throw myself the alley-oop, and I take the ball out and shoot the three-pointer myself, and I take the ball out and I dunk the ball.”
Interscope Records’ current roster includes Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q (both of whom are signed to TDE/Aftermath Entertainment), and two onetime nemeses of 50 in French Montana and Game. The latter is signed to Geffen Records, an Interscope subsidiary.
