Lil Wayne came under fire when Future’s “Karate Chop (Remix)” dropped due to a controversial lyric where Weezy rapped, “beat that pussy up like Emmett Till.”
Now, Wayne has apologized to Till’s family during a live show. In the middle of performing “Karate Chop” at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. Instead of his original lyric, Wayne rhymed, “I apologize to the family of Emmett Till” (spotted at Karen Civil):
In February, Till’s cousin reacted to the original lyrics, saying Lil Wayne has “no pride and no dignity” as a black man.
So intense was the backlash from the lyrics that Wayne lost a sponsorship from Mountain Dew and was banned from a Michigan radio station.
In April, Talib Kweli suggested that Wayne apologize to Till’s family, and in May, Wayne issued a public apology to Till’s family.
