Wale’s third studio album The Gifted has already seen good reviews and sales. Debuting at Number 1 on the Billboard 200 for the first time in his career, the Washington DC native recently explained some of his thoughts behind the music.

Recently sitting down with Billboard, Wale said that he spent a while tweaking the album’s sound; more time than actually writing his rhymes.

“I spent more time tweaking the sound of it than I did writing my raps ’cause I wanted to go all the way in on some sound,” he said.

Doing a song-by-song recap of the album, the MMG rapper said that the track “Gullible” was to teach society that there’s more to life than “feeling good.”

“The society we live in right now is so horrible that if it sounds good, it’s the truth,” Wale remarked. “If it feels good, it’s the truth.”

Regarding the album’s single, Wale said that he didn’t believe that singer/pop star Rihanna would participate on “Bad (Remix).” He would become pleasantly surprised.

“Me and Rihanna, we talked about it for a while and she was like, ‘I wanna do it’ and I was like, ‘You’re just giving me the artist talk, come on shorty you don’t wanna do it,’ and you know she did it and she boddied it,” he said. “I got Rihanna to rap a little bit so I’m happy about that.”
