Chris Brown has been charged with criminal hit-and-run, according to TMZ.com. The Los Angeles City Attorney has filed two criminal charges against Brown stemming from an incident last month where Brown rear-ended another vehicle, according to the report. He then allegedly refused to share his driver’s license number and provided the other party with false insurance information before leaving the scene, according to the report.

Brown has been charged with hit-and-run for leaving the scene without exchanging proper insurance information and has also been charged with driving without a valid license, according to TMZ. The crimes are punishable by a maximum of six months in jail for each offense, according to the site.

Today (June 25), Brown tweeted a number of messages proclaiming his innocence in the matter.

The Los Angeles City Attorney will refer the matter to the Los Angeles County District Attorney for a possible probation violation of Brown’s sentence stemming from his 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna, according to TMZ. Brown was sentenced to five years probation and more than 1,400 hours of community service in that case. If a judge feels that Brown broke the law in the hit-and-run incident, thus violating his probation, he could be sentenced up to four years in prison, the site says.

Even though Gure-Kovalenko says in the statement that both she and Brown pulled their cars over to the side of the road after the collision, she says that Brown declined to give her his driver’s license. When Gure-Kovalenko says she went to take a picture of Brown and Karrueche Tran, Brown’s girlfriend who was riding in the vehicle in which Brown was driving, she says the Brown and Tran became violent.  “The guy [Chris] tried to grab camera or me,” Gure-Kovalenko says in the report, as per TMZ. “I jumped back, the girl [Karrueche] screamed, ‘Don’t touch her, don’t touch her.'”

Gure-Kovalenko says that Brown then said, “You are a bitch. Who do you think you are, bitch?  Do you think if you driving Mercedes so got money, bitch?”

Brown’s lawyer,Mark Geragos, says that Brown gave the other driver in the incident his Virginia driver’s license and also gave her an insurance card, according to TMZ. Geragos also says the hit-and-run charge is not valid and that Brown has two cars, and that the Fireman’s Insurance card he provided was for his Lamborghini, not the Range Rover he was driving.
