With album releases from Mac Miller, Kanye West, J. Cole, and a handful of other artists all scheduled for June 18, the third Tuesday of this month is shaping up to be quite the momentous day for Hip Hop.

Mac Miller, an artist who first announced June 18 as the release date for his Watching Movies With The Sound Off album, recently spoke with Fuse to share his thoughts on the big day. According to Miller, at one point he even considered backing out after he was made aware of the Yeezus release date, but instead chose to hold his ground.

“I wanted to run at first. Then I was like ‘Nah, I’m not gonna run. I’m gonna hold my ground. I’mma drop this album same day,’” the Pittsburgh rapper revealed.

The rapper’s hesitancy eventually turned into excitement as he spoke on the possibility of Yeezus dropping the same day as his album being a sort of omen.

“But I’m like this is the perfect way to do it. That this is an omen, there’s a reason that this is happening,” he explained. “I don’t know what it is, but there’s some reason. And J. Cole came up with his ‘I wanna go against Kanye.’ Maybe he didn’t know I was also dropping. He didn’t wanna mention the kid, which is cool. No hard feelings. But it’s become this really big day, which is exciting man. It’s exciting because everyone’s gonna be in the stores and they’re gonna buy records again…I don’t give a fuck about the competition. I just want people to listen to the album.”

Ironically enough, prior to the announcement of June 18 release dates for both Yeezus and Born Sinner, the “Donald Trump” rapper thought he’d have that particular date for himself.

“All I wanted for my album was its own space. June 18, no one’s gonna drop June 18,” said Miller. “I’m gonna be straight. I’m just gonna have my own day and then no one’s gonna be focused on anything besides my album. And that’s what I need right now. I need people to just like shut up and focus.”
