Talib Kweli Clarifies Statements On Rick Ross & Lil Wayne

Talib Kweli also asks why fans are not similarly outraged by Notorious B.I.G., Eminem or Odd Future lyrics.

Earlier this week, Talib Kweli criticized Rick Ross and Lil Wayne. He referred to Ross as a "misguided 40 year-old person" for lyrics about slipping molly into a girl's drink. Kweli also said Lil Wayne should apologize to Emmett Till's family for a lyric referencing Till's kidnapping, assault and murder. More recently, Kweli called in to Hot 97's Cipha Sounds & Rosenberg Show to clarify his statements.

"The blogs have been getting on me saying I've got opinions about Ross or opinions about Lil Wayne. I'm like, 'Yo, I've got opinions just like the next man.' But I'm glad through social media you can get it straight from the horse's mouth. You can go on my Twitter and find out what I really think as opposed to trusting what a blog might have to say about me. But I've got my opinions just like anybody else in Hip Hop. And I'm not no authority on Rick Ross or Lil Wayne or anybody else. I'm not no authority. I don't make no demands. I don't have no power over these men. But I state my opinion just like anybody else," Kweli stated in a call-in interview.

"All these artists that have lyrics that offend people, especially Rick Ross and Lil Wayne, I'm a fan of both of these men. I know both of these men. I'm friendly with both of these men," he shared. "I have no issues with these people as artists. I think we should embrace our artists. But if people say something that I don't agree with, I have no problem saying that it's wrong. I do think that Ross was wrong on those lyrics. I do think that...I do think that [Ross] was dead wrong with that particular lyric."

He continued, saying that he is not about slandering or censoring other artists. Later, he added that fans have complained about Ross and Wayne but have not been as vocal about other artists like Notorious B.I.G. or Eminem

"I think when it comes to Rick Ross and Lil Wayne, a lot of so-called Hip Hop fans just don't like them in general. So they're looking for other reasons to not like them. Whereas they'll accept rape lyrics from a Biggie Smalls, or an Eminem or an Odd Future. They look at that and they'll condone that but they won't condone it from rappers whose music they don't like."

Kweli's statements regarding Ross originally came from an interview with Huffington Post. Kweli's message for Lil Wayne came via AllHipHop. His comments on Hot 97 can be heard in full below.

i must have missed the years when biggie and eminem had big sponsorships with reebok.. the reason they didnt is because they rapped about crack, ecstasy and rapin bitches..rick ross is a fat wack bitch but he should know better not to burn those bridges sayin stupid shit..not that he could think of anything better to rap about than poppin molly in a girls drink..also biggie and em were never hated or banned.. in the 90s you could rap about whatever you wanted and people loved it. in fact rapping about being banned(as eminem did while on mtv) made it seem cooler and more popular and playable to the mainstream..now its all social media bla bla bullshit.. peace

"Rick Ross can barley even freestyle, he writes all his lyrics down and reviews them many times before making the final song" What an awful crime. Writing down lyrics before recording a song. The nerve of that gangster.

"However, many people who get offended from trivial things such as risque lyrics and activities are mainly soccer moms, sensitive women, politicians, critics" You forgot those nags on The View. Seriously, I see your point. The people getting offended are usually the one's who don't listen to rap music to begin with. They hear something then blast it because they're mad, but they don't know what they're supposed to be mad at. The artists for saying this stuff, the labels for putting it out, MTV for playing it, etc. At the end of the day, I guess each person has to decide what they want to hear, or better yet, what they want their kids to hear. It's all about them and not having them grow up thinking it's ok for rappers to say these things like it's nothing. Peace

This is great in theory. But Talib has done some questionable songs these past few years. That shit with Gucci was unacceptable, doesn't mesh well. And he's done records with these artists knowing they spit that shit.

  • jakefromstatefarm

One MC stand up for what he believes, and everyone gets butthurt like a prison virgin... If this is the state of Hip Hop now...

  • Hello

He's right, actually. Let's stop being dumb and being force-fed this crap off the conveyor belt, because labels will constantly pick up the same offensive stuff (eg Odd Future) and put it in the mainstream. Why? Because people continue to buy it. There's other, good hip-hop about that doesn't follow the basic rap stereotype.

  • fry

lol @ "So-called hip-hop fans" Dear Kweli: You're a so-called "Real" hip-hop artist, yet you listen to lil wayne like you're a 14 year old girl? Stop getting lil kids to try to listen to you and remain relevant. People would like you if you told the truth about how lil gayne and fat ross suck big time

    • killah_casp

lol absoloute truth my friend i respect talib but in all honestedy us real hip hop fans came here in hope some rappers where telling it how it is and thats we dont like this bubblegum bullshit rappers dropping like 50 weak ass tracks in a month to overshadow the real music we dont like that and wont accept that.

    • Anonymous

what a ridiculous comment. talib dont owe you anything.

  • fry

This guy is full of it. Trying hard to get a new generation to like him. He can rap pretty well, but he lost me years ago when he was defending lil gayne in concert when that dude was wearing the 'lil wayne sucks' t-shirt. It's a knife to the heart to see a "conscious" rapper that likes 2 whack artists. wtf is conscious rap anyway? I know most of these hipster and swag rappers sound like they should be dead, but are they considered "unconscious"?

  • Ringworm

We all know Rick Ross's persona is fake so why would the lyric be interpreted as real? Hypocrite stans trying to make passes for their favourite rappers with their irrational shock value arguments.

  • Rape Ross

Equality is important, I don't discriminate. I rape anyone that lets me get close to em don't matter if their black, white, gay or whatever BAWSE!!!

  • Nasstill@it

At this present moment I seriously doubt hip hop can be saved. Both rappers and fans and everybody involved have double standards. Something which is wrong and serious like rape cannot be condoned...by anybody! Whether it's a regular joe on the street or your so-called greatest or favorite rapper of all time. I've come to a conclusion that most people in hip hop refuse to grow up period! It's not about what's real or fake, it's time for hip hop to grow up!

  • Anonymous

This shit is fucking stupid and Talibs being a idiot. I cant back him on this shit. He was already questionable. Just cause a MCs conscious does not mean his intentions are pure.

    • Real

How is he being and idiot for stating his opinion? Ross and Waynes lyrics were uncalled for. Kweli has a right to vioce his opinion just like you are voicing yours.

  • Anonymous

Man an artist can say what the fuck he wants! As long as it is not being glorified and promoted to the youth. Man even Immortal Technique and Pac had fucked up ass lyrics and people didnt say shit. Its about balance people, stop trying to censor artist! And for the record Em got a shit load of flack for his lyrics, do a little research people.

  • B haze

First of all if you listened to eminem you would know he is a lyricist who says whatever is on his mind at that specific moment. Em basically freestyles his rhymes together, right off the top of his head as long as it rhymes. Not concerned with the lyrics themselves, just the rhyme. Rick Ross can barley even freestyle, he writes all his lyrics down and reviews them many times before making the final song. He is a fake ass rapper/ co. If you cannot freestyle you should not be a hip hop artist. To all you stupid people it is not a black or white thing it is a talent thing. Anyone can tallk maybachs, blunts 40, and bitches. Uuuuhhhhh. Uhhhhhh Em takes you on a journey in another life no one could get away with in real life, for all you people to dumb to realize this, go f yourself.

    • fry

you make a decent amount of sense ,except you should never admit your favorite rapper "doesn't pay attention to the actual lyrics"

    • Anonymous

Are you serious? Eminem can roast anybody with the freestyle game but he writes all his music. He lost a book full of rhymes and and offered a reward for it. Stop watching 8 Mile your making yourself look bad man

    • B haze

Can't even put a name you coward. I'm not on em's dick just speaking on his style, em is not my favorite rapper but cannot deny he has skills. I like de la soul, krs, nas, swollen members, kweli, mos def, common, etc. not like the shitty rappers this coward listens to. I totally respect kweli, reflection eternal is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time. Rick Ross is just a dumb fat fuck who sucks at rapping, just like Wayne, but stupid hipsters love that shit so that is the direction everything is going and it is sad. And idiots like you with your stupid comments are

    • Anonymous

Somebody needs to take Em dick out they mouth

  • Anonymous

And another thing. Eminem never backpedaled saying he didn't mean his "rape lyrics" as rape. Rick Ross is in serious denial about the context of his lyrics when it's plain to see what he meant whereas Eminem basically said "yeah I fuckin said it. So what."

  • Anon1

People act like Eminem didn't catch flack and wasn't the most hated musician in America. I'm only in my early 20's but it seems that's old compared to most of those who comment on here. Obviously people either choose not to remember this or weren't alive when Eminem was hated. He was banned from TV stations, radio, magazines & newspapers blasted him & many activist groups protested him. So when people say why doesn't Eminem get brought up it's because we've been numbed to the shock value he once brought.

    • not'lil

Real is a dumb ass, tha fuck you mean only the hood dictates his album sales? You think only the hood made his albums go diamond GTFO with that shit.

    • Real

eminem has never been hated by the hip hopp community. Most rap artist are not concerned about the mainstream medias view of them. They no the hood dictates their album sales not mainstream media

  • The Real Ricky Rozay

So eminem can make an entire album about raping women and drugging them, and yall say nothing. but when ross says one line hes the worst person in the world. What is with these double standards in hip hop. Biggie and eminem talked about kidnapping children, praising the devil, murdering jesus, raping the virgin mary, and none of you niggas said shit. ross says one line and u niggas become moralists. yall so quick to condemn this nigga ross not even realizing that your favorites are 100x worse. I cant stand fucking bias, selective memory having, double standard using hypocrites. Bawse!!!!!!!!!!

    • DOPE

The Real Ricky Rozay, Eminem never rapped about murdering Jesus or the other thing you said about the Virgin Mary. Please do not state false information just for the sake of supporting your favorite artist (Rick Ross). Every time Eminem rapped about raping women or killing people, everyone who heard it knew it for a fact that he would never do that in real life. That's what the genius of his work is, people who listen to it just know where he is coming from. When it comes to rappers like Rick Ross talking about raping women, like the lyric he is getting all this mess for, of course you know that he has done that and is doing that. Please learn the difference and again do not state false information. Have some respect. The world is already full of scum anyway. Also, do not take this as an insult and do not get offended and try to respond back to just "get back to me". This is just my opinion which I think is important to share. This goes to all the people who think the same way as you on this site or around the world. Thank you.

    • People Please

officer ricky, we know you wrote that...stop cosigning foolishness you imbecile. Coming up with those childish lame excuses for this savage "I know you are but what about....", completely childish. You weren't paying attention when people were criticizing biggie, so blame yourself...

  • Rozay

t kills me how all of a sudden its 2012 and ppl young and old (for the past 12 years) have been all of a sudden overly critical about every lyric, beat, style, team, verse, wateva that comes out of every artist mouth now adays. It's like them comic book geeks who wait for years for movies to drop just so they can shit talk about it and not take it as what it was. I personally like the album. Its a good definition of great stuff in new times which I have to admit is rare. But truth be told it's as rare as it's ever been. PPL act like biggie and pac especially didnt make weak tracks pac had mad wack songs before he was crowned that nigga. The waves are no different. Biggie and Pac was just the first and almost only two niggas ever of their calabare who died at the height of their wave. Say that shit neva happened and Ross got shot 2 weeks from now. God Forgives and I don't would be crowned a classic and ross would be the greatest to have eva did it. PPL minds to small to realize that hip hop/rap aint been round dat long. Give dis shit time and the artists a chance or else we gonna loose it and it a neva come back. Over thinkitive ass mufuckas

  • Anonymous

It's hilarious how stupid people act like Molly is a date rape drug, corny squares might as well call Spanish Fly a date rape drug. I wonder how people feel about Biggies lyrics were he rapes a man with a broom or DMX threatening to rape a 16 year old in his music......or Emenim lyrics were he wants to rape his own mother. People are selective with their outrage, which is why Emenim can rap about murdering women and still win a Grammy and have car commercials that air during the Super Bowl. Rappers should stick to rapping about killing each other so they won't get in trouble.

  • Shuttaman

Look here, Kwafaggot. Eminem came out like this, what he rapped was seen as entertainment not as a mode of life that he wanted others to adopt. Same for Odd Future. That's what Tyler raps or used to rap about. It's all in the concept of what they do. When u got a track like UENO where niggas are straight flexing, stunting, flashing they muscles hustles and cash, its a feel good track. Ross came in talking normally and threw in the rape line like is it was part of a lifestyle that the normal american wanted. THAT'S WHY PEOPLE GOT MAD THAT SHIT CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AS IF Ross admitted he really did it, and wanted to see if he was able to get away with it and make it the norm/incorporate into the American Dream norm.

    • um

"Real: So, that makes the lyric ok? When youngsters listen to Ross they take his lyrics as real. So that verse to a young head can be damaging because their are kids who idiolize this dud and believe everthing that comes out his mouth. Get your IQ up" You need an IQ advancement, not me. Parents need to supervise and raise their fucking kids properly. They need to explain things to many of them. The main problem is the lack of guidance and direction within each child's life. Parental Advisory stickers sure as hell don't get slapped on a CD/MP3 file for decorating purposes. There are smart kids who know what's real and what's fake, and then there are dumb or ill-informed kids who believe otherwise. Even some grown ass adults don't fully understand or care about ethics and knowledge. Music does have impact. However, will you let it impact you positively or negatively? Will you expose and explain certain things to your children? The individual does the damage for the most part. Everyone of us has a choice.

"When u got a track like UENO where niggas are straight flexing, stunting, flashing they muscles hustles and cash, its a feel good track. Ross came in talking normally and threw in the rape line like is it was part of a lifestyle that the normal american wanted" I don't even know where to start...first of all nobody who listens to Hip-Hop listens to it for 'flexing, stunting, or chash' we listen for enlightenment, entertainment or to bop our heads. That's idiocy and makes no one "Feel good". Finally...you have no fucking idea what the normal American wants.

    • smh...wrong

@Shuttaman - It doesn't matter. A rape line is a rape line. If you're gonna bash Rick Ross (who I don't like either) for it, along with other dark lyrics, then you might as well bash the whole rap game for the unpleasant lyrics. As long as he is not actually doing the act, then it shouldn't be a huge issue. Same goes Eminem, Biggie, Big L, Odd Future, Necro, and countless other rappers/groups. Stop being too biased. People should be protesting against actual rapists, pedophiles, child molesters, and other sick bastards themselves rather than a harmless, fake, fronting rapper merely talking about date rape briefly in a single song. There are much more serious problems out there that deserve complete undivided attention and protest. A rape line isn't going to exactly make people suddenly rape other people, just like a simple violent video game isn't going to necessarily make people commit crimes. If a person is ill enough, then he/she will most likely (or die trying to find a way to) hurt and kill others anyway due to various inexcusable reasons. I agree that corporations and artists should not be promoting careless and demented behaviors such as violence (mainly Chief Keef), irresponsible partying and sex (most "artists"). However, the public doesn't seem to care due to ignorance and simply not giving a fuck about accountability and others. I also agree that some artists talked about violence and other things to reflect on their lives or lives surrounding them (ex: NWA, Eminem), while some artists are putting them in a positive light merely to make themselves look badass (ex: Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, even some decent rappers). Many artists do a combination of both. Nevertheless, it's up to the listener to decide whether they want to live or continue the lifestyle or not.

This Rick Ross Vs Eminem debate is funny as hell. How come Ross can't say it but Em can? Ahahahahaha Ummm... Seriously? I understand year 2000 was a long time ago because some people can't remember past 2 weeks but when Marshall Mathers LP came out there was a huge protest much bigger than this with picket signs. And most of them were white people. Am I the only one who remember this?

  • Anonymous

its terrible to talk about slipping a molly into a girl drink, I get that. But Rick Ross has been talking about selling drugs, murder, and other damaging things to our community. Why isn't he criticized for all of this? Why aren't more rappers? How long can we keep playing this game?

    • Anonymous

The kids already said they lied about MJ. It's about time y'all let that one go and admit media played an important part in slandering that man and y'all ran with it.

    • I'm Ar Work and Bored

Right? When men get's raped, nobody gives a sh*t. Em wrote a song about being raped by his Mom's boyfriend. Nobody cared because the accused wasn't Michael Jackson

    • whocaresidont

Because women are a protected class of people and it's trendy to be a feminist and cry about the patriarchy and the rape "culture." Rape is terrible, of course, but there's a whole culture of anti-man privileged white broads who claim the worst thing anyone can do is offend a woman. And they have their "white knight" male feminists to step in and defend them.

    • I'm At Work And Bored

It's because people need things to b*tch about and blame and rappers are the easiest target.

  • Anonymous

"It's entertainment for the most part" Alot of people would disagree, especially non rap fans who if they heard a line like that would probably be turned off from the genre all together. There's nothing entertaining about being sick, especially if you're making references to kids. Talk about donkeys or goats, but leave kids out of it. Your never going to stop rappers from saying "crazy things", but if more of them were called out for it they would stop.

    • Cold Truth

I see and agree your point of view. However, many people who get offended from trivial things such as risque lyrics and activities are mainly soccer moms, sensitive women, politicians, critics. Most of us people get offended at various thing times; some are just more easily offended than others. For the kids, adolescents, and young adults, things like Eminem's typical shock lyrics and other controversial forms rebellion are considered "cool" to them. It's like how some people back then thought that Elvis Presley was selling sex to girls or The Beatles are other rock/metal bands were Satanic. I do believe that things have worsened since then, but we cannot censor "freedom of speech", regardless of now hateful or hurtful the words are. All we would do is call them out. What I was trying to do was point point out the hypocrisy here. If they are going to call out Rick Ross for "rape lyrics", then they should call out every other rapper that has "rape lyrics". It's either all or nothing. People are so biased.

  • Cold Truth

And please don't bitch about how long my essay is. If you don't want to read this, that's good. However, don't be a dick and try to verbally tear me down like an immature dumbass because of it.

  • Cold Truth

Talib Kweli is absolutely correct. Remember when Ryan Dunn died from DUI and speeding over 140mph? And he also took the life of a buddy with him due to his stupidity? Most of Dunn's and Jackass's fans tried to defend him and insult anybody who believed that he (Dunn) was in the wrong. If Ryan Dunn wasn't famous and still made the news, everyone would've been bashing him and other ordinary people who drink and drive daily. Famous and well-liked people often get much more passes in life than the average or less popular people. THIS IS ANOTHER fine example of the double standard and bias. Even though I like Eminem, Biggie, Big L, and other skilled rappers with dark lyrics much, much more than no-talents like Wayne and Ross, you people need to come to realization that wack rappers have the right to talk about dark shit in their songs as well. It's entertainment for the most part. As long as the rappers aren't actually doing the gruesome shit outside of their music, then it's fine. The only difference is that the skilled rappers are just better at executing their lyrics and dark imagery than the wack rappers. The argument that "rape lyrics causes more rape" is about as reliable as "Grand Theft Auto video games causes more violence". It's the person behind the gun that does the crime, not the gun itself. Also, if Kendrick Lamar kissed a man (ex: Dr. Dre) on the lips like Lil Wayne did, would you also bash him? If you are going to bash a rapper, bash him/her because he/she is wack (or has a shitty, fake, and/or hypocritical personality), not because of something as mundane as a generic lyric with shock value that so many of your favorite rappers have within their songs. So ETK and others alike, take Biggie's and Eminem's cocks out of your eyesockets because you all are being shafted from the truth due to your prejudice. Most of you people here are being very hypocritical to the point where it's just an embarrassment now. Stop making excuses and just admit that you like Biggie, Eminem, and whoever else better than Rick Ross and Lil Wayne, instead of feeding your one-sided sentiments and arguments. If I can do it, why can't the rest of you? And yes, I do believe that MMG, YMCMB, Future, and there rest of the wack "rappers" should leave hip hop for good.

    • Cold Truth

      Agreed and well said c.

    • c

Word, for the most part. While people have the "right" to rap about whatever they want, they're still held responsible for what they say. And just for the record, people don't bash em or big lyrics much anymore because that's no longer relevant, it's old news. In the 90's though, Ready to Die was controversial. Any of eminem's first few records? Controversial. Insanely controversial. Could you even argue that Ross or wayne is on that level? This is just turning into free publicity and plays for both Ross and Wayne

  • Nat Turner

White-skinned people will make excuses for Emenims rape-lyrics and give him a pass because they think his lyrics are for "shock-value" but these hypocrites don't even see how faulty their logic is. It's even more laughable how these ignorant squares act like Molly/Extasy is a date-rape drug LOLOL

    • Anon

I know. Its only white people who do that to, thanks for making the distinction. I forgot white people are born with that chip in their brain to make excuses for Eminem. Even though white politicians such as, Tipper Gore, tried to censor Eminems music and Eminem was under ten times more scrutiny then Wayne and Ross combined. You must be 12. Go suck on your thumb.

    • RevRac

I dont think any artist should be censored. But at least Eminem has lyrical talent and song structure. Rick Ross is not an artist/poet/linguist he is an advertising ploy to sell people with nothing shit they dont need!

well i cant remember the line off hand but a person telling a story about rape isn't condoling rape... or presenting the story as if they are the one's doing it...just like a movie character who may rape a woman..no different.. music tends to be more hypnotizing and more powerful than movies.. this is different because of the deception of slipping a drug to a woman then having sex with her and she didn't know it and passing it off as its ok... thats glorifying it.. but biggie and eminem didn't glorify.. they presented a story in which they were doing something.. also the eminem lyric he say just bend over and take it like a slut ok ma... and in the third person he say "oh now he raping his own mother....." he didnt say he was raping his mother.. people wanna hear what they want..and point the finger to take the heat off them...own up to your own shit...drugging a woman and having sex with her and she didnt know it and saying it like its cool is wrong.. thats glorifying..

ps eminem prob had it worse than every rapper in history of rap. he had every group imaginable out there on his dick. picketing, protesting w.e on top of that never came out an apologized he just kept sayin and i quote' fuck you' LOL..plus hes white and the white community that doesnt like rap rly will listen 2 eminem bec hes a beast and white so white ppl were more pissed at eminem bec he was reaching the white audience..where as white ppl hear rick ross and its more like..again. nothing new but when u throw a random rape bar into raps u generally use for the 'streets' then it gets noticed more

    • IMhO

what i mean by worse is that eminem reached the suburbs like no other rapper could (bec hes white) so in turn you had many other suburban protesters going at ems neck bec his music reached their kids and heard what he was saying..

    • firehawk17

had it worse? not sure about that...but i agree he had it worse than most.. he explained himself as its entertainment.. just as artist do they write from the perspective of others and create stories which allows them to write certain things within that character...no reflection on him directly.. just the same as movie producers create their characters.. Rick ross isn't creative just stupid.. sorry there is a difference.

  • IMhO

simple explainations 1)Eminem- we all know em is joking 2)Odd future- who listens 2 odd future 3)biggy- that line sucks in the song and its weird. dont like it shouldnt of even been in his head let alone into a rap

    • Tapeworm

@firehawk at the end of the day they all profited from these outrageous lyrics and we all know rick ross persona of being a Mafia Connect is fake the same way the implied rape is fake so how is it any different from Eminem's shock lyrics, there should be no categorisations either its all acceptable or all unacceptable.

    • Anonymous

DMX? "You got a 15 year old daughter. Imma rape her" no one gave a fuck about that and we all know he's serious cause he's fucking crazy. and fuck gay people that get pissed at others for being homophobic. be gay, who gives a shit? just dont come around me.

    • IMhO

@RR- excuses. everyone and their moms know eminem says shit for shock value that isnt true. im a big as fan of biggy as i am of eminem but i didnt back up biggys like and cosign@firehawk

    • firehawk17

we know odd future says things just to ruffle feathers just like eminem... thats the difference.. we all know it aint nothing to it but entertainment.. rick ross raps as if this is the life he lives.. if he says its just entertainment i don't sell drugs, im not street, im just trying to make money then cool.. but he was glorifying it and saying it like it was cool.. Biggie line was disturbing actually lol i cant even lie.. he had a couple of disturbing lines but people need to stop trying to make excuses for Ross... em never glorified rape, neither did biggie...look up glorify people..

did you now read the article? he said he has no problems with wayne or ross, is in fact friendly with them. but he DISAGREES WITH THESE PARTICULAR LYRICS. interpret that how you want to, but i take it to me, he respects wayne/ross, and is even willing to work with them, but at the same time, he wouldn't get on a song with any artist if they were spitting shit he didn't agree with (emmitt till, rape, etc.) if you ask me, that's a real dude.

Rape is bad, but genocide, kidnapping, and torture are ok? If you bitch about rape lyrics and not about death lyrics then you are either a hypocrite or an idiot. Your favorite rapper is almost guaranteed to have threatened to "shoot ya bitch" or "kidnap your kids" or "water boarding" someone. That's all fine and well, just don't rape a bitch after you kidnap and dismember her children for monetary value or you may be considered an asshole.

""there was no meaning behind those lyrics" negro please, a lot of Biggie/Eminem's rhymes have no meaning either, but I don't see you talking shit about them. There's no difference between the shit Rick Ross, Biggie, Em, Odd Future or Lil Wayne say. If you gonna trash one nigga, then just trash them all." there is a fuckin difference you spack Ross and Wayne's lyrics are interchangeable. Eminem and odd Future's lyrics are part of their style, and there is a connotation behind the overall STORY. there is no story behind taking a girl back to your crib and slipping a molly in their drink. Makes no difference to Ross' record or stature. If Ross was about that life, if he was dropping shock lyrics like no tomorrow then it'd be glossed over because it's his schtick. but it isn't. His schtick is interchangeable braggadocio content that can live with or without the condoning of rape. there is no SPECIFIC meaning behind Eminem's lyrics pertaining to rape but when you look at his overall presentation, what he brings to the table in his overall lyrics, you can see they fit to a degree. and whatever the case, Eminem doesn't constitute those lyrics in radio singles, so your argument is moot

  • Frank.White

eminem odd future it was expected by them to say outrageous shit bc its what they're known for and they even said In their albums it their lyrics shouldn't be taken seriously. eminem was heavily protested and was made into a bigger star bc of it. as for biggie he said it for niggas to know not to fuck aound with the king of NY. Ross on the other hand glorifies and get some kind of gratification that fucked some chick with out her knowing she had some fat guys tiny dick in her.

  • OnlyHipHop

I don't condone raping any female or lyrics suggesting it from a rapper that I either like or don't like. Step out of the realm of self and look at the evidence, it's bigger than liking Ross, Wayne, Drake, etc. The site chimpout aggregates content to purposely target Blacks and infest other site comments with hatred. Not sure about the others whom Talib mentioned... but I NEVER agreed with Em's representation of rape, sex assault or just assault of any kind against women. He's one of the few rappers who can make great songs without compromising his lyricism. As far as Kendrick -- Hip-hop fans always seem to put a rapper on a pedestal after ONE dope project. Let's see what he does next. I agree that Black Thought is a beast.

    • Anonymous

  • Banger

Race is nothing...Ross is a money grabbing entertainer, not a rapper...everything supposedly called rap these days is turning the mainstream into wannabe fools and the real hip hop fans into militant haters. So, the conclusion is , these days, rap divides and the Rich keep laughing at all us fools...Ya dig?

  • ETK

oh please man you know why Eminem gets a pass? Its cause he paints a picture with his lyrics, shock visual images which have a slight connotation with his troubled childhood and family issues. Odd Future's entire schtick is shock lyrics. That's what they're EXPECTED for. If they were lambasted for that they wouldn't have made it past their first fuckin mixtape! they made their bed in it & those niggas were underground when they started doin that. nobody took care to them and they weren't bumpin on the radio. Eminem is also smart enough not to pass really shocking lyrics on his MAIN radio singles. Rick Ross though.. there was no meaning behind those lyrics. there's no sensationalism, no message, no undertones, no metaphors, and he could've done without it. his fans know that too. Ross and Wayne's lyrics are so interchangeable. they could've used a different line instead of what they used and the song would've meant and came across as the exact fucking same. Wayne could've used ANY other nigga that got beaten up - line would've had the same meaning, just less looked into. THAT is the fuckin difference. I respect Talib but he needs to stop tryna sound diplomatic and listening to these internet niggas too much. it's obvious why Ross and Wayne are targeted here.

    • nnn

"negro please, a lot of Biggie/Eminem's rhymes have no meaning either, but I don't see you talking shit about them. There's no difference between the shit Rick Ross, Biggie, Em, Odd Future or Lil Wayne say. If you gonna trash one nigga, then just trash them all." "no matter how u try to put it its still a double standard bro" Talib Kweli, along with these two, whom I have quoted, are correct. Famous and well-liked people often get much more passes in life than the average or less popular person. It's entertainment for the most part only. If you are going to bash a rapper, bash him/her because he/she is wack (or having a shitty, fake, and/or hypocritical personality), not because of something as mundane as a generic lyric with shock value that so many of your favorite rappers have within their songs. So ETK and others alike, take Biggie's and Eminem's cocks out of your eyesockets because you all are being shafted from the truth due to your prejudice. Most of you people here are being very hypocritical to the point where it's just an embarrassment now. Stop making excuses and just admit that you like Biggie, Eminem, and whoever else better than Rick Ross and Lil Wayne, instead of feeding your one-sided sentiments. and arguments If I can do it, why can't the rest of you?

    • Assassin221

"So if you're expected to rape a bitch...or if you can make a cool story out of raping a bitch, its okay to rape a bitch." In a way...yeah. Think of it like this. If your homeboy asked you if you wanted to go to his house and watch a rape video with him, you would probably be disgusted and never talk to him again. If he asked if you wanted to go watch A Clockwork Orange or some other movie with a rape scene as a central part of the story...totally different reaction. The context does make a huge difference.

Actually, you are the stupid one here Anonymous, as well as in denial (along with the rest of the dumbasses here). YESSIR was actually right for once. There is too much dickriding these days and nearly each person is impulsively quick to one a "hater" if he/she simply doesn't like something/someone that another person does. It's fucking pathetic, as well as the numerous hypocrisies that I see here and elsewhere everyday. Although, I find the passage profoundly ironic since YESSIR always dickrides YMCMB (or pretends to). The only thing he isn't right about is within the last, bullshit, contradicting sentence where he suggests that Talib should sign with YMCMB and that Birdman is a GOAT music mogul. That [last sentence] was clearly written for humorous and trolling purposes.

And for the record, all of you should be happy about that because many crips were affiliated with white supremicists and spanish cartels.

They look at that and they'll condone that but they won't condone it from rappers whose music they don't like." that is the motha fuckin truth!!!!!

(Talib Kweli "Yep"). But Rick Ross simply sucks and his pathetic flow and rhymes aren't funny. Wayne sucks ass hard, but at least he's (barely) funny. Can't say that about Ross tho.
