Jay-Z's Roc Nation To Represent New York Yankees Star Robinson Cano

With reports of Jay-Z soon trying his hand as a sports agent, Roc Nation now represents Timbaland, Rihanna, Santigold and New York Yankees star Second Baseman Robinson Cano.

Roc Nation currently handles the careers of Jay-Z, Rihanna, Timbaland and Santigold. Now, Jay-Z's label and management company is expanding into sports representation. ESPN reports that today (April 2), New York Yankees star Second Baseman Robinson Cano has joined Roc Nation to manage his business affairs. The Roc has reportedly partnered with Creative Artist Affairs (CAA) in this venture.

Cano, who is in the final season of a $57 million contract, publicly left longtime agent Scott Boras.

"At this point in my career, I am ready to take a more active role in my endeavors on and off the field," Cano, now 30, said in a statement. "I am confident that the pairing of Roc Nation Sports and CAA Sports will be essential in helping me accomplish my short- and long-term goals. I am making this important decision now so I can keep my focus on helping the Yankees succeed in 2013, while minimizing any distractions for me and my teammates."

ESPN's story also states that Jay-Z is planning to become a certified sports agent.

“Because of my love of sports, it was a natural progression to form a company where we can help top athletes in various sports the same way we have been helping artists in the music industry for years,” said Jay-Z in a statement.

In 1999, another Rap mogul of the day, Master P, launched No Limit Sports. The New Orleans, Louisiana native and CEO of No Limit Records who represented Running Back Ricky Williams in the 1999 NFL Draft. No Limit Sports was later fired after Williams' first contract.

"Jay-Z eventually will become an Agent and give up his minority share with the Nets, wayyyy more money being a big time agent" It all seems fake though, like an extended publicity stunt except money's involved. Jay is smart, but agent smart? That's a whole new ballgame. Is he ready to jump into the sports world that is nothing like the music world? Guess only time will tell.

That's what I say Jay Z said : Because of my love of sports, it was a natural progression to form a company where we can help top athletes in various sports the same way we have been helping artists in the music industry for years, said Jay-Z in a statement." The MUSIC INDUSTRY IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN THE SPORTS INDUSTRY SMH!! Having NBA/NFL players signed to the ROC just as if it was a record label deal sounds ABSURD to me!

All you haters are idiots. Jay-Z is a smart business man. CAA has already worked out billions in contracts for players. More players will move towards their model because its understood that more is asked of players off the field these days. CAA isn't a sports agency but a regular agency that reps all sorts of people and can provide expertise outside of the sports industry. Jay-Z eventually will become an Agent and give up his minority share with the Nets, wayyyy more money being a big time agent. There is a reason he's all buddy buddy with some of the top stars aka Lebron. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of guys jump ship and roll with him. After he makes a boat load off of doing this, 10-20 yrs, he will try to become the majority owner of a professional team, which is his end game. But then again this is DX and nobody has a rational discussion on here.

Sport agent my ass. More like "hey cano go to my 40/40 club and sign some baseball bats. genuine sports fans never visit my club because they know it isn't a true sports bar. maybe if you start signing autographs and taking pictures they'll start showing up"

I hope Cano realizes Jay's agenda here. Scott Boras is shrewd, but he's negogiated alot of bigtime deals, so he knows what he's doing. To jump from one shark to another could backfire, but hey, it's his career.

Hilarious... And yeah, that album from 45-year-old Jay Electronica is dropping real soon. Cano is a fucking moron but if he wants to be a starfucking pioneer... let him try.

Jay Electronica should just leak his own album... It has been in Jay-z possession since almost this time last year. Looks like Jay-z is trying to play him for a Ho.

Bad move for Cano. First of all, Roc Nation has no experience representing athletes. Sports agencies or full-service talent agenices have teams of people who are knowledgable in how to best position athletes. Second, Jay-Z is a yankee fan. He may be biased and get Cano to take less money to resign with the Yankees, which would not be in the best interests of his client. My bold prediction is that Cano signs with the Mariners and the Yanks extend Granderson instead. Oh yeah, and YMCMB we got the game by the clit. Jay knows he can't compete with us musically, so he has to go into sports.
