For the second consecutive week, there were no critical additions in the Hip Hop community on the Top 200 charts. Glam Rock and Hair Rock took the top of the charts this week, with Bon Jovi at #1 and David Bowie at #2.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' independently-released juggernaut The Heist dropped 13 spots to #17, despite an active South By Southwest presence, including a live-streamed showcase. Pitbull, further from his Hip Hop roots than ever, climbed 43 spots with his 2012 Polo Grounds/RCA Records album, Global Warming.
Pitbull Warns The Globe
Miami, Florida veteran rapper-turned-Pop star Pitbull made that impressive 43 spot climb with his Global Warning. The November album featured production from Polow Da Don, with vocal assistance by Chris Brown and Usher. Pit has come a long way from his days with Luke Records, but it's safe to say that Money Is A Major Issue no more.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Are Breathing Down A Gold Heist
Seattle, Washington veteran duo of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are possibly a week away from crossing the 500,000 lines with The Heist. The group's success on the late 2012 album remains a case study in the independent music community. The 29 year-old emcee included Ab-Soul, ScHoolboy Q and Band Of Horses' Ben Birdwell on his most significant album to date, in an extensive catalog of EPs and a previous LP, The Language Of My World.
