?uestlove, DJ Jazzy Jeff To Play Final Party At Long-Standing Philadelphia Club Fluid

UPDATE: The South Street district of Philadelphia will lose one of its main venues for Hip Hop and Electro. ?uestlove and Tastytreats will reportedly help shut it down, along with A Touch Of Jazz.

After 16 years, Fluid, a club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's South Street district has announced its closing. Philly.com reported the news last week. The nightlife mainstay of the city's Hip Hop and Electro community has reportedly succumbed to the changing values in the storied landmark area of the city, and opted to close.

Fluid's manager, Oronde Gibson commented on South Street's changes over his 14 years working there. "It’s gone from a mom and pop artsy-type thing to a corporate type-thing.”

To honor the club during its closing, The Roots' Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson will headline the April 6 show. Joined by Mike Nyce and Yameen Allworld, the trio has hosted a long-standing Tastytreats party.

The club has been semenal to Diplo and the Mad Decent movement, in addition to ?uestlove, Black Thought and King Britt.

UPDATE: DJ Jazzy Jeff has also been added to the night's lineup.

Will be sad to see it close! There's not a place in Philly like it! I guess I'll have to be on a mission once again to find a place to get my dance on to real music! First Filos, then "M" Lounge and let's not forget the Five Spot! What the hell is going on with the music scene in Philly?

I'm with you on that. I spent quite a few years during and after college in Philly, and there was no place like Fluid. While a number of my peers favored the big clubs, Fluid was my spot. The first time I went there, my cousin was DJing there that night and convinced the bouncer to let me in cuz I was only 20 and I loved that spot ever since. Seems like all the good spots are disappearing. Elena's Soul Caf in my old neighborhood on Baltimore Ave just burned down a few months back.
