Last night (February 10) at the 2013 Grammy Awards, Christian Hip Hop artist Lecrae made history by being the first rapper to grab a the Grammy Award for Best Gospel Album for his 2012 effort, Gravity. The September 2012 release, which debuted in the Top 3 overall charts, beat contenders from Gospel artists such as Marvin Sapp and Anita Wilson.

“This past year has been an amazing experience and to see that my music is opening doors for the Hip Hop culture is incredible. All I want to do is make great honest music for all my fans to enjoy,” said Lecrae in a statement. “I want to build opportunities for other artists like myself as well as show that there is always a place for being unashamed and authentic.”

Released on Reach Records, Gravity features The Clipse’s No Malice. The album sold over 73,000 units in its first week.
