YG has announced the title of his Def Jam Records debut.
During an interview with AHH, the rapper revealed that his debut album will be titled Welcome To Bompton, a hat-tip to his hometown of Compton, California.
"I’m gonna be on some YG, turnt up street shit," he explained. "I’m gonna do the ‘Welcome to Bompton’ theme, that’d be dope. I’m turning the C to a B, so niggas gonna be talking, like oooooooh... that shit gonna be hard, yeah that’s gonna be hard. And it's my first album, it’s like an introduction at the same time, it's my first album, like my introduction to the whole world.”
Additionally, YG has enlisted Young Jeezy to executive produce the project. The relationship developed after recording the Cardo-produced "Playin," which also features Wiz Khalifa and was included on his most recent mixtape Just Re'd Up 2.
The 24-year-old, who signed to Def Jam in 2009, released his breakout single "Toot It and Boot It" featuring Ty$ the following year. He has since hit the charts wtih last year's "Bitches Ain't Shit" featuring Tyga and Nipsey Hussle, peaking at #100.
UPDATE: After news in January of Young Jeezy to executive produce YG's Welcome To Bompton, Mr. 17.5 has taken it one step further and signed the Compton, California rapper to CTE Worldwide. BET.com confirmed the deal. While Jeezy, a Def Jam Records solo artist, recently took his imprint to Atlantic Records backing, it is believed that YG's deal will remain through CTE/Def Jam.
Last month, Young Jeezy signed his first CTE act since the Atlantic merger in Detroit, Michigan's Doughboyz Cashout.
Welcome To Bompton still does not have a release date.
