Big Sean Explains Putting Skits On "Hall Of Fame" To Channel Classic Albums

Big Sean digs into the creative process for his upcoming sophomore album.

Big Sean is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming sophomore album Hall of Fame: Memoirs of a Detroit Player, releasing in 2013. During an interview with Power 105's The Breakfast Club, the G.O.O.D. Music rapper explained that he wants to put skits on the LP to channel the sound and feel of classic albums and that the timeframe for this LP allowed for him to do so.

"First of all, I took my time. The one main thing was, I'm never putting out another project without putting skits on it. I know that sounds small, but all the classic albums I grew up listening to had fresh ass skits on it, always," he said. "I was so mad my first album didn't have skits. I didn't have time to think of them, it was too much. This one, we took our time planning out the skits, planning out the exact songs, got way more production. People can tell I stepped the bars up."

You know when you're not making a classic album? When you try to make it look like other classic albums.

Try to put great music on it to "Channel classic albums".

  • Fuck Detroit

Nigga acting like he invented this skit shit SMH what a pussy

  • BigSeanThief

Big Sean is a straight bitter.. First he steals his title from an underground artist Ess Vee - "The Anecdote: Memoirs of S. Victor" (Which is out now and been out). Big Sean - "Hall of Fame: Memoirs of a Detroit Player"..smh and now he wants to put skits in his new album.. Which of course we all know he got that from Kendrick Lamar's "Good Kid M.A.A.D City".

@TheTruth, I agree with you, some of these niggas up here be saying the lamest shit.

    • TheTruth

How in the fuck do you get that Big Sean stole the album title? where do you fuck boys come up with this shit? i swear i read these comments and i think you're all fucking stupid.

    • Joice

I thought I was the only one who noticed that about the album name. Big Sean has a big Label behind him so its easy to take something from an underground guy in a independent label. I like both Big Sean and Ess Vee but Big Sean should just keep it real.

Big Sean is just one of many YMCMB affiliates to go gold. It's clear that YMCMB has the golden touch. Meanwhile, everything Jay-Z touches turns to shit.

  • Hiphophead9

GKMC is making that impact the haters keep saying it isnt making, kendrick put skits back on the map

    • Ernie

I don't think he was saying that. I think he was acknowledging that in mainstream albums in the last few years, skits that drove the mechanics of the album have been absent.

But in no way did he start them. Rappers have been putting skits on albums for DECADES now. Wu-tang really started it. Again, Kendrick is a great artist but for the of god get the fuck off his dick.

  • yea

cant hate, rappers stepping up their game and realizing how all the small details really add up is what leads to good music. Not a huge big sean fan but good to hear hes putting the extra effort into it
