Trina Sued For $50 Million Over Allegedly Backing Out Of Appearance

Trina was sued over pulling out of an event called "America's Next Top Rapper."

Trina has been sued for $50 million in damages over allegedly pulling out of an agreement to appear as a judge during an event called "America's Next Top Rapper."

According to Courthouse News Service, Omnipresent Media and Lawrence "Amar" Wright filed suit against the Miami rapstress, her managing agent Rarebreed Entertainment, its principal Josh Burke, the State of Florida and J Ego Entertainment and Nunoise Travel.

The suit claims that Trina agreed to judge the online streaming video platform and competition where aspiring rappers compete to win $20,000, a Universal distribution deal and a "hit production team," among other rewards.

Omnipresent, which throws the competition, said that Trina agreed to judge and then backed out of the show, which was to be held on December 30, 2011. The problem began when Trina and management allegedly failed to send promotional videos for organizers to promote the event. Omnipresent says that its promotions "generated significant traffic on the blogs of major entertainment networks, including BET and MTV."

Trina and management then asked for more money and that the taping would not be publicly broadcasted. Her travel agent then said that she would not appear to judge unless the company paid her travel expenses. Omnipresent says it agreed, but she still didn't provide the promo videos. Because of her absence, Omnipresent says that some attendees became "unruly" and "heckled competition participants."

If she loses the lawsuit... I'll be the happiest person that ever lived.

This sue happy country should have some sort of laws set in place that when you try to milk someone out of an outrageous number like this, if you lose the case you have to paid said person the same amount. Lawsuits are too easy to create against someone. It was a glorified fucking podcast!

50mill for not doing an online streaming event.... Give me a break

  • slick

if i was them i would just ask her to let me ask fuck her and she could keep the 50 million

  • slick

Damn does trina even have 50 Mill?

The intent is not to actually sue for 50 mil. They're just trying to ruin her by wiping her clean of everything she's worth.

Trina has no where near this amount of money, if i was a betting man i would say she has probably less than 2 million liquid dollars in her reach. Now before somebody says her net income, must know that those "net" numbers seen online or in financial magazines includes assets and anything that is of considered worth. So you can say someone is worth 30 million dollars. Doesn't mean that they have access to that money. It just means if they sell all of their asset that is a approximation of what they will get.

"Most rappers have more then 10 mill" Most of the old guys do.

Surely a better point is, a public appearance by, at best, a C-list rapper (in terms of public profile) can't have lost $50m (it probably lost less than a 40th of that figure), so regardless of whether she has the money, how reasonable is the person making the suit given the circumstances...

It's a symbolic number that pushes it to the top of the caseload, if they would have sued for her advance and lost advertising time costs because of no tapes equaling $100k-$250k it would take years. Old and effective tactic.

The question is not whether she has it or not, no one does, especially not to give away in a lawsuit. I am sure even Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, 50 or Diddy would have a heart attack if they lost a 50 million dollar lawsuit. The complainant did not even begin to lose that amount when she backed out, so why would you sue for that much. Your suit now begins to look frivolous and you won't be taken seriously. As to her net worth, we don't know and she WAS always b if not c rated so we don't expect her to have that much. But I remember watching a MTV Cribs episode that featured her and I was shocked. Fat crib, a Bentley and I really wanted to know how Trina was living like that. She might not be worth more than a couple mill, but she might be a closet smartie and not the bimbo we expect, and know how to manage her money. She also seems to know how to hook up with rappers of the moment and I am sure she gets them to spend on her. She can always sell those jewelry later if things go bad.

Yepp, tts just a typical american "we-hit-you-with-enormous-digits" lawsuit, what is the worst that could came out for them? (Aside from losing, of course.) Getting probably a realistic compensation, which is still a favourable? No way they have 50 million for that case. And as far as Trina, well, sooner or later majority of these so called artists run out of money. You can't maintain such wealth without significant income, thus only a small percentage can keep up that lifestyle. Probably the biggest moral of the story is that money from music is not other than basic capital for further investments. Don't know anything about Trina in that regard, but I hope she was farseeing with her financies, because I'm pretty sure she won't get a second chance.

Someone would've paid Trina to appear in public? I wouldn't have recognised her if she walked by me in the street.

Not good news... Trina hasn't got $50m... Only rappers with more than $10m (more than likely) are Jay-Z, Drake, Kanye, Wayne, 50, Dre, Shady, Ross, TI, Nicki and some of the Wu? Possibly Kendrick...

snoop, ludacris, common, kanye, timbaland, pharrell, game, andre 3000 / big boi, Mos Def, busta rhymes, fat joe.................and so on, there are a lot out there, not to say that they have in their reach 10 mill in cash flow, but most certainly have made that much profits. A misconception however would be thinking that new age rappers are rich because of there popularity. Hype is cheap these days with the internet, and internet/hype in most cases doesn't sell records or sell out shows on the kind of scale required. Kendrick could be one to make money in his career.
