A$AP Rocky Explains How He Helped Society View Homosexuality Differently

A$AP Rocky says that he "made it cool" to express yourself through fashion, even if some might consider that "gay."

A$AP Rocky recently shared his views on homosexuality with Hard Knock TV, speaking on how others have equated his fashion sense to him being gay. During the interview, he said that he has helped the urban community accept homosexuality by making these fashion statements but that there are stigmas in place preventing some from having an open mind.

"We made it cool - I kicked down the door for kids that's my age, older and younger, to be able to wear Jeremy Scott sneakers, rips in their jeans and not feel gay," he said. "That's what the society of the urban community tries to portray. If you do certain things like snug fashion, high-end fashion, other things that's not really in the criteria of the small state of mind of the urban community, you're 'gay.' Different is 'gay.' Weird is 'gay' where they come from. But they're slowly learning because of a guy named A$AP Rocky."

He continued by stating that he used to be homophobic, but that he no longer holds any ill will towards others based on their sexual preference or skin color. The Harlem, New York native said that he doesn't judge people based on their lifestyle and that he hopes his opinions influence others.

"That shit ain't gay. That's just different. That shit ain't gay. I'm a heterosexual man. I never been gay a day of my life. I used to be homophobic, but as I got older, I realized that wasn't the way to do things. I don't discriminate against anybody for their sexual preference, for their skin color... That's immature. Not only that, not only do I know the difference between that, but I'm wise enough to know that that's just stupid and wrong, and I'm just trying to spread that to everybody. Yo, you don't have to worry about what he's doing. If he's gay, that's his business. Why does it matter? If you gay, why do you care? I don't give a fuck about gay people. I don't! I don't give a fuck about straight people. I don't care. It don't matter to me. I'm getting bitches, I'm getting money - not to get into my Hip Hop form, but that's just what it is. I'm just trying to set the bar that you can do what the fuck you want to do because the world is yours."

Let me get this straight, that whole interview was about twelve minuets long.. He covered a lot of important topics including where hip hop/ the culture etc.. And after all that all you guys seem to be beefing about is him saying gay. He said he's not gay, but half of the comments on here are saying he's a homo.. Make me wonder about a lot of these dudes on this site.. "Closet homos" are usually the first ones to call someone gay because you're trying to draw attention away from your insecurity. Homos!!

  • STRAIGHT NIGGA

..Completely agree with asap.. as a latino, latins do the same shit, they hate if your not like them and they NEVER say it to your face.. it's ironic that gays are called faggots when the real faggots are the ones that call em that, yeah, I know, some gay guys are fuckin annoying but don't be mad cause somebody different

My question is why are y'all so insistent for Hip Hop to accept homosexuality? Has Country embraced it? Has the classical music fan wanted their musicians to speak on homosexuality? Jazz? Why must Hip Hop, the genre of music that has been dominantly urban minorities until recently be pressured into accepting it? I've been around the block, I understand speaking about tolerance. But tolerance is different than influence. Does Country need a gay artist, wear certain types of clothing and do certain things to preach tolerance? Does the next up and coming Jazz artist need to write a Frank Ocean letter? Why rap music? The elders know teaching tolerance was put into the curriculum years ago. Why so much of the gay influence through a media outlet on the same people who already grow and grew up seeing and experiencing it in their environment? I know of the population theory, but China isn't telling their population to be gay. IMO, it's less homophobia and more of noticing a "recruitment".

    • ASEE

false analogy: jazz music doesn't have a history of explicit gay bashing like hip hop. the idea isn't that hip hop "embrace" homosexuality at all. just that they don't hate on people for being who they are.

    • ok

why not? why shouldnt rap? why should rap wait for country and jazz? rap is something that is truely individual to the artist so why should we be waiting for other music to change before we change ourselves?

I think the people who changed hip-hop society's view of homosexuality were, first and foremost, Frank Ocean (came out), Kanye West (openly spoke out) and Andre 3000 (fashion and style).

A$AP Rocky is being used as an agent to push the white supremacist agenda of Homosexual (anti-sexual) behavior and Interracial genocide (bastardization)on the Black community/Family structure!

  • Pegasus Flow

Stone Age clowns below me with the homophobic bullshit they sayin. The world evolves, people evolve and the game has definitely evloved (some good and some horribly bad)but the desire to put down gays is pure ignorance. People are scared of what they don't understand. Keep standing in place you bitches.

    • TYBO2020

WHAT'S TEXAS MUSIC??..I THOUGHT IT EVOLVED FROM HIPHOP IN NY..

    • Anonymous

u dudes are really SAD....do your RESEARCH..gay is a madeup name..BEFORE TRU MAN..SEXED CRAZED ANGELS FLEW TO EARTH RAPED WOMEN MEN N CHILDREN..THATS WHERE THE CONFUSION COMES FROM..BUT THIS DUDE ASAP IS HELLA GAY LOL UR FROM HARLEM BUT U DO TX MUSIC HOW IN THE FUCK IS DAT EVOLVING???

    • StateOfMind

Evolution would not occur if it was left to homosexuality. That thought of agreeing with that point certainly doesn't equate to the evolution of the mind. Just one more thing, Pegasus, calling them - Gays, does not help your point.

    • Fish

A man that wants to fuck another man is something i NEVER want to understand. If you want to understand it so badly, go and get a dick in your ass, see what all the fuss is about. Faggot.

I was with hum until he said; "I encourage everyone to have a interracial relationship" Fuck dat bro. Black and Proud.

  • Mu

Wow, you can tell a lot about who you guys are (or aren't) by your ignorant, disgusting fucking comments. I watched that interview and came away thinking "Cudos to you ASAP... For once a see a YOUNG new hip-hop cat that has a good perspective on things" THATS a real nigga, not Rozay, not Wayne. ASAP isn't afraid to talk about unpopular issues in hip-hop like being accepting of other people's sexual preferences. Some of yall are too STUPID to realize bashing gays isn't much different than someone bashing you because you're black, or because you don't have money, or because you don't have a college degree, or because you're a loser that comes to websites and types negative comments on their mother's computer in the basement. Nobody is saying you have to let gay people spend the night at your house. Some of yall mufuckas that keep yelling out "He's gay because..." be the ones struggling with your own sexuality inside. If you like bitches, fuck bitches and don't worry about everybody that doesn't. I'm begging yall.. Grow the fuck up Hip-Hop fans!!

  • Enlightened

So in other words....he's gay. Oh ok. I get it. That was a very Kanye gay denial.

  • BigWo0orm45

lol When Lil B was sayin this shit, people were trippin. This is what the whole Based Movement was about. Being yourself and not caring what someone else thinks about it.

  • Anonymous

Jeremy Scott shoes be trash though

  • Kanye West

Damn!! I was the first! Apologize to me ASAP

  • Doubl Negative

I've got no problem with gays, but I take umbrage with them infecting and contaminating our once glorious hip-hop scene. Most rap fans are normal heterosexuals, and normal straight people and gays usually act and think differently, but because gays, and white girls are rappers main focus these days it's changing the landscape of hip-hop. MCs have to pander to those people and stop catering to hip-hop's indigenous audience and the detrimental affect has been hip-hop is being altered to something completely alien to most rap fans. If gays wanna fuck with our music they should take the raw, un-commercial shit, they shouldn't have the power to determin what direction hip-hop takes to suit their needs.

  • Anonymous

no he didnt. once he became a star he doesnt give a fuck about what some low-life gangbanger thinks about his clothing style. stars are "allowed" to wear fashion like that. anyways, kanye taught him.

  • Anonymous

hipsters = wanna dress borderline gay, but not be called gay.

  • eddy

all this accepting gays, stop bullying bullshit, etc. kids gotta stop be treated like pussy's, learn to put their fists up and fight back. everything is being feminized.

    • Mr. George

Damn you hit the nail on the head. We've been weaken our next generation to the point where we no longer have strong people. Straight or gay all this bitchassness gots to stop! Prepare these boys to grow into men not a bunch of soft cowards.

Most of what he said in this interview about Homosexuality and race, Lil' B was saying last year. LOL And its going to take a lot more than interracial dating to stop racism. He giving himself a lot of credit. lol

  • ss

there is absolutely nothin cool or to brag about fuckin another man, raise your sons y'all.

Im a fan of rocky but i wish he wasn't always trying to sound like a hero and be the cool guy all the time. Kanye West did this if anyone. And I think he just called the urban community small minded lol I love Rockys music but he's pretty fake sometimes.
