This week was an active one for the world beyond music, as the United States welcomed Barack Obama for his second term. It’s a big deal for Hip Hop, considering Obama’s mention in so many Rap tracks (check the list for proof). Not to mention, the support of the Hip Hop community during the election (did anyone else read Chief Keef’s tweets?) Now that our political structure is back in place, we can check out some music that arrived this week. Our Top Singles aren’t like the elections, though. They change by the week. While some drop in and out within seven days, others stick around for a while. Check out who made the cut this time around.

Watch the Throne, Kendrick Lamar, Because Game Took It

Kendrick Lamar has been a fixture on our Top Singles list, and with good reason. Before Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City dropped and after it, K-Dot was showing up all over the place. Especially in the top spot. He gets bumped this week by Jayceon Taylor. That’s right, Game’s “Holy Water” grabbed the top spot this week at #1. That doesn’t mean Kendrick was forgotten though. The re-release of “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” with Lady Gaga made it to #2. He also re-appeared at #7 with his gift to fans, “The Jig Is Up” produced by J. Cole and Canei Finch.

A$AP Rocky Sticks Around, The Weeknd Makes Two Guest Appearances

Kendrick Lamar’s tracks from his own projects hit the list, but he also showed up to close out the list. A$AP Rocky’s “Fuckin Problem” with Drake, 2 Chainz, and Kendrick came in at #10 on the list. A$AP’s cut has been around for a while now. We’re all waiting for some new music from his 2013 release of LongLiveA$AP. Meanwhile, as The Weeknd readies the release of Trilogy for November 13th, we get some more tunes to slip into a trance over. He came through at #3 with “Valerie,” and then he showed up again at #4 with “Twenty-Eight.” Welcome to the table, Abel!
