On October 18th, legendary Hip Hop group Whodini will be inducted into the Long Island Music Hall Of Fame. This ceremony will place Jalil, Ecstasy and Grandmaster Dee alongside the likes of Eric B. & Rakim, LL Cool J, Run-DMC and Public Enemy. The event will take place at the Paramount Theater in Huntington, New York.
Doc Ice, of another 1980s New York Hip Hop group, U.T.F.O., will present Whodini with their awards.
Whodini, who are often credited as Brooklyn natives, have a career spans over three decades. The Jive/Arista artists made hits such as “Friends,” “Five Minutes Of Funk” and “The Freaks Come Out At Night.” The group released six albums, most recently Six on Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def Records imprint in 1996. Including Dupri, who began his career as a dancer for Whodini, the trio deeply influenced DJ Premier and Chris Rock, who presented them with a Vh1 Hip Hop Honors award in 2007.

UPDATE: Famed Hip Hop trio Salt-N-Pepa have been added to the 2012 induction of the Long Island Music Hall Of Fame. Salt, Pepa and DJ Spinderella began as stars on the Next Plateau label, with hits like “Push It” and “Tramp” before finding major label success in the ’90s with Pop-influenced hits like “Shoomp” and “Whatta Man.”
