Jay-Z is now halfway through his eight-gig residency at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Last night during the fourth show in the series, Hov took a break to recall how he played his first demo tape for his uncle and was met with skepticism. He explained that his uncle told him that he would never be better than LL Cool J, and took a beat to imply otherwise.

“My first demo tape I played for my uncle, and he said “N**ga, get out! You never gon be better than LL Cool J,” he said. “Now, LL Cool J is a bad m*thafucker… I’ll just leave that alone.”

He continued with some inspirational words that he has echoed on previous nights, telling the audience that everyone is a genius at something, only they have to discover their hidden talents.
