Slaughterhouse Discusses Whether They Are Underrated & Respect From Radio

Slaughterhouse's members discuss the respect they feel they get - and what they deserve.

While Slaughterhouse has received much critical acclaim over the years, the group has not seen that translate to commercial appeal.

In a recent interview on ThisIs50.com, the quartet addressed whether they are underrated. "No," said Joell Ortiz, while Joe Budden yelled, "Fuck yeah!" Joell elaborated: "I can't walk on the street - I'm not Joell Ortiz anymore! I'm a fuckin' one-quarter of [Slaughterhouse], that's it."

"Every fuckin' show, niggas peekin' behind stage, I'm like, 'they're not here!'" added Joell, laughing. "We get respect. Niggas respect us."

Joe Budden offered a different opinion. "We four of the best rappers in the world, I feel like. That's just me. And, let me be clear: I feel like every emcee - not rapper - I feel like every emcee should have that mind state."

Royce Da 5'9 also weighed in on the matter. "We done gave radio certain records that we feel can go, and they didn't go for reasons other than how good we feel the record is, how a lot of people feel the record is."

I don't get the "old nigga" talk they're all younger than Rozay and the same age as Lil Wayne. Lyrically they are on some supersayan shit which is their schtick, they're the And1 tour of hip hop, view it as such and they like Rafer Alston mad skills but hardly get to start. It's a shame tho that radio thinks their listeners are dumb, then again maybe they know.

    • fusion

it's not all about the real age and they are old, see how many major albums Rick Ross or Lil Wayne has, meanwhile Crooked I is 33-years-old and still have no solo album

  • Anonymous

"We four of the best rappers in the world" If the world only consisted of 5 rappers that might be true. As it is, all four of these dudes are career fuck up's, and despite Royce rebounding nicely of late, they exist much like D-12 did, to lick Em's balls, and cash a few mercy checks.

  • Anonymous

album is dope 11 ill songs 3 shitty songs (throw that, throw it away, our house) 4/5 worth the $10 support real hip hop or go buy 2chainz if you lack the mental capacity to understand slaughterhouse

WACK!...ATTACK THE WACK!!!!!!

Joey = only worthwile artist out of this group, the others can rap, but suck overall. First album was good for some punchlines and flows but they never had enough chemistry, ideas and substance to last.

  • Fuck Shady

First time in my life I see Slaughterhouse talking about something different than Eminem

  • YEBO

FAKE ASS POP RAPPERS WITH THEIR FLOPHOUSE GARBAGE ALBUM IM GLAD THAT THEY GET NO RADIO PLAY IF YES I WILL JUST "THROW IT AWAY" LIKE THEY SAID IN ONE OF THEIR SHITTY SONGS WHICH THE ONLY GOOD PART WAS SWIZZ BEATS WHO IS CLASSICAL RAPPER AND PRODUCER POP SINGER EMINEM AND EMO BITCH SKYLAR GREY SHOULDVE NOT BEEN ON THIS ALBUM THEY RATHER GET FEATURE FROM WIZ OR WAYNE NEXT TIME TO GENERATE SOME BUZZ I STILL DONT SEE ANY POINT, WHY ARE THEY STILL RAPPING? - JOELL ORTIZ IS ONE OF THE WORST RAPPER OF ALL TIME, HE WILL BE DEAD, IN JAIL OR BROKE IN 5 YEARS - ROYCE DA FAP NINE WILL BE NEVER ABLE TO DO GOOD SOLO WORK, ALL HE DO IS DICKRIDING EMINEM AND HE IS SO DEEEEEEP IN HIS ASS THAT I CANT EVEN SEE HIS SHOES - CROOKED I - OLD ASS NIGGA RAPPING 24950 YEARS AND STILL HAVE NO ALBUM, HIS STYLE SUCKS AND NOBODY IN CALI RESPECTS HIM AS AN ARTIST - JOE BUDDEN HAD SOME GOOD SONGS ON HIS FIRST ALBUM WHICH LANDED IN BILLBOARD TOP 10 BUT AFTER THAT HE FELL OFF - AND KENDRICK LAMAR SHOULD BE IN THIS GROUP, HE IS A STUPID FRAUD AND HE SUCKS TOO ENOUGH WITH THAT FAGGOTS, THESE GUYS HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO LYRICAL VALUE, RESPECT THE REAL LEGENDS WITH THE BEST LYRICS LIKE WIZ KHALIFA, LIL WAYNE, JUSTIN BIEBER, 2 CHAINZ, NICKI MINAJ, REBECCA BLACK AND OTHERS DONT FORGET TO MENTION ONE DIRECTION - THESE GUYS ARE SOMETHING LIKE NEW NWA AND ARE LYRICALY SHITTING ON ALL SLAUGHTERHOUSE RAPPERS

  • INOA

The problem is Slaughterhouse is a group, not a movement.

  • fusion

Signing to Shady is the worst thing ever if you are not Eminem himself or 50 Cent, Eminem is one of the greatest rappers right now but he really sucks when it comes to managing his own artists, couldn't these guys see what he has done to Yelawolf, D12, Obie Trice, Cashis, Stat Quo, Bobby Creekwater and basically everyone he signed? All of them flopped, fell off or haven't even released a single album I used to be slaughterhouse fan and their first album was really great but still I'm not sh dickrider and I can face the truth that Our house album sucks in everyway (unlike the mixtape which was pretty good) my lil review: the album consist of these type of songs: - wannabe radio singles, which are bad in every way because 1. all sucks, 2. doesn't get any radio play anyway - throwaway Eminem verses, Skylar Grey choruses and songs with throwaway beats from producers - some ordinary songs - some good songs and what is the worst, album lacks the direction, is that album good for anything? I don't think so, when I want to hear pop rap songs I rather listen to Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne or other people who are doing GOOD or at least SUCCESSFUL mainstream hip hop when I want to hear Eminem verses, I rather listen to his own albums except Relapse and when I want to hear a good lyrical album, I would pick their first album or somebody like Nas, that album is just not good enough the slaughterhouse dickriders can't accept the fact that lyrics ain't everything, it's difference between making a good lyrical album and making lyrical album that basically sucks, SH proved they are capable of doing good album (their debut) and album that sucks (their major debut) and the last think, how it is possible to have Alex da Kid, Hit-Boy, Kane Beatz, T-Minus, Boi-1da, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League on album and at the same time pick their worst work ever... these guys are the hottest producers right now working with Drake and other "pop" artists on singles that doesn't flop and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League gave Ross some CLASSIC beats

    • fusion

read it again, I'm not a hater, I like their first album, just because I like good music and I am disappointed with their new album doesn't mean I'm a hater

    • @fusion

You are the epitome of a retarded hater.

    • ^^^^

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! GOOD JOKE, COCKSUCKER! THAT ESROGEN-FILLED TAKE CARE IS NOT A CLASSIC AND IS NOT GANGSTA.

    • YEBO

YES, TAKE CARE IS CERTIFIED CLASSIC, ONE OF THE BEST GANGSTA RAP ALBUMS OF ALL TIME, BETTER THAN SLAUGHTERHOUSE WILL EVER BE

    • fusion

The direction is an album concept as a whole, if the songs make sense together, the good album should have more than just random songs put together, it has to be playable as a whole album from beginning to the end and tell people something and this album fails at it even Drake's Take Care is better when it comes to "album direction", but mostly because of its beats

    • ETK

lyrics are a lot to Slaughterhouse fans because that's what they excel in so everything else you're babbling about, you can kill it. "lacks direction" fuck does that mean? yeah, that's only something you could elaborate on in another 500-word novel. in other words, thats your fuckin opinion and it ain't absolute. album can have direction for plenty of people.

    • fusion

I really doubt they will have a chance to do second album with Shady and I hope I'm right because their independent work was gread and FUCK SHADY: fuck you, read the whole discussion, there are plenty of LONG comments, why you point out just mine? If it's too long for you, I'm sorry, just do your homework and go to bed early

    • Fuck Shady

Too bad no one will read your useless novel.

    • ^^^

Eminem didn't really do anything to Yelawolf. Radioactive was all Yela's idea. But he did say he's going back to his Trunk Muzik roots on Love Story, so don't even worry. But on Slaughterhouse... yeah, this album was a major disappointment. If they continue to make this kind of music for their next album (that is if they're able to make another album under Shady) then I'm not gonna support the GROUP anymore. But solo work is a different story, especially when it comes down to Joe.

  • Anonymous

The album will be the biggest disappointment of 2012. They have no chemistry and dont know how to make an album. Skills on the mic isnt enough to create great music.

  • Cha Boi

Whattup world its cha boi back at it! i've been around the world and i i i - seen so many faces. i think these cats gon fail.. i aint saying that cus im hater, but look at teh game tape. theres never been a good group with 4 or more ppl. they suck ass. 2-3 is all i fucks with. • Anonymous

"Underrated"? These fucking bums have gottem more unearned HYPE than any group in rap history... And they'll still FLOP-- just like every fucking single has FLOPPED. They deserve even worse but their commercial and critical failure is a good start.

These are the men our kids listen too ? They speak as if there teenagers. Ashamed.

We need older cat's to kick knowledge not talk about there problems at 40 but how they accomplished and made it through. Give the kids who listen a alternative. Respect to Nas, KRS 1, Chuck D, Scarface, there's more. RIP PAC & BIG.

  • Toomuch

these guys suck at making every style track. when they just rap it's 5 minutes of hollow bars about nothing and when they try and deliver a single it's incredibly bad. they have no classic track that defines them. they have no big moments aside from getting together and getting signed to shady. i havent seen their popularity grow since fucking with eminem. eminem fans today are not interested in rap music. wake up. after seeing this interview it's clear to me they actually think they're killing the game, when in fact they're killing their careers. this is going to be hard to bounce back from. another major label shot that blew up in their face. shoulda just focused on making good music when they haven't even been able to prove they can consistently do that as a group. instead a group of 4 guys with no hits got together and tried making hits. bad idea. eminem is clueless and slaughterhouse are destined to lose. these guys never got it and probably never will. notice how websites like dx are holding back on reviews. it's like a really bad movie not being available for review by critics a week before cuz the studio knows it's a stinker. there's no confidence behind this project, i see this as the first and last major label shot for slaughterhouse. the way these guys handeled their major label debut is a testament as to why they've never quite been able to get it going on the major level. shady failed and so did slaughterhouse. eminem is a legend but the guy is so unbelievably washed up it baffles me how he still has die hards checking for everything he does. eminem's skill level and decision making is in the dumps.

All of you are retared ass fuckboys that don't know nothing. Kill yourselves, cunts.

    • Anonymous

you fuckin right. They have no chemistry at all. I mean Wu Tang had chemisty not Slaughterhouse. its like pick 4 rappers frim the street put them with beats in the studio and make a record. They also lack direction. Its just spitt and nothing more.

    • Anonymous

1000% truth, except I don't like any of them solo except maybe a few Royce verses from 10 years ago.

  • youngsta

old ass flopperhouse, ooh i mean, slaughterhouse are very overrated by numberous eminem dickriders on here and they never got play on the radio. they tried to sell out with all those pop beats but it didn't work. only internet nerds are going to buy that piece of shit tomorrow. god i can't decide which is the worst of the year: nas, prodigy or slaughterhouse. they're all terrible.

    • to the retards above...

All of you are retared ass bitches that don't know hip-hop. Besides, the worst album of the year is Nicki Minaj's crappy pop album, no doubt.

    • Anonymous

exactly. nas only justification = illmatic.

    • Anonymous

all 3 suck. rap really is dead. nas is a clown. funny how all the net thought that album was classic. for like 3 days. now that you've had it for a while, it's just another shitty nas album. like i am nastradamus streets diciple hip hop is dead untitled that piece of crap with marley etc. theyre all classic for a week. then you realize it sucks.

  • Anonymous

The way I look at it is, none of them really have to prove ANYTHING to anyone. They've all been in the underground for a minute. Like Jay-Z said "N***s want my old shit, buy my old album" In the words of their boss... "And All I Hear Is Pop Tunes Come On The Radi-O And They Play Em 20 Times In A Row Daily And They Very Well Maybe The Same Reason They Don't Say Me When They Speak On Hip-Hop Legends Which Is Amaze Me Cause I Thought The Formula Was To Hit Mainstream And Make It Big Ba Big Big Bay Ba Baby"

    • Anonymous

their old albums suck, except for Crooked, who's 53 years old and doesn't even have an album. morons say well yeah, Joell sucks now but "The Brick" was aiiight-- yeah, mayne two are three tracks were but the rest was TRASH, just like everything else this obese bum has done.

  • EMINEM RUINS RAPPERS..

As a true fan of Slaughterhouse, whose been riding with Joey and Royce since 99, i know On The House is the LP they wanted to release, but Our House is what they had to do to attempt to reach the masses....But even Im dissappointed in how the LP sounds, Ima still cop it. HOWEVER It is my belief that if Eminem didnt over shadow and have as much input as he did, the record woulda been a volcano instead of a microwave....you can hear Em in the lab like "thats crazy" and b/c of who he is they be like "yeah it is, lets write to that one." No PREME, JUSTBLAZE, BLACKMILK, JUSTICE LEAGUE. NO ALBUM SALES...

    • ETK

you're doin nothing with your life but hating all day, so by far you're doing it wrong the most.

    • Anonymous

Laughterhouse FAILED in every way possible to reach the 'masses' and all they did was annoy their VERY small fanbase... Their live show sucks, their interviews are retarded, their 'fashion' is abysmal (how many different 'looks' have they tried?)... Never seen FOUR WHORES try everything and still get everything wrong.

  • Slaughterhouse cluess

I don't understand how Royce don't "get" why this hot dud of an album doesn't have any singles that have radio play. The singles SUCK that's why the masses aint buying it. Their beats are subpar. Shitty even. If they had a good beat...it would matter what these fools rapped about...and I hate to say it but that's the messed up state of hiphop. And the sad part about this whole album is that they have knew clue why their "radio-friendly" songs aren't hot....it's because their NOT. Go listen to that damn Meek Mill song "Amen". I HATE that song but I have to admit that the beat is catchy and the hook is catchy. Females...you know the ones that make all this shit popular don't really give two fucks about what a rapper is saying. They're too busy shaking their ass to the beat and singing the hooks. That's just the way it is. Not if the actually record is going then they we'll actually get into the lyrics but 9 times outta 10 aint no female caring initially about no intricate rhymes. SH fails because they can't pick a good beat or write catchy hooks.

    • Anonymous

DING DING DING-- this album, even if one likes their bars (which I don't), is musical trash... Royce has his head so far up Marshall's ass he wants to BELIEVE but maaaaan... wait until those sales #s come out. 600,000? 60,000? TRY ** 16,000 **!!!

    • ^^^^^

      yawn!! im buying the album!!

  • realtalk

going off of hits and putting out the best music. mmg>ymcmb>roc nation>good music> slaugther house. slaughter house is dope and all good lyricists. but in hip hop its not just all about lyrics its flow beats production adlibs and lyrics. lyrics is a big part of it but if you dont have the right flow or the right beats the shits gonna sound wak

    • Point Exaxtly 2

I agree with the TDE...those boys are the truth. Their chemistry is second to none of the groups out today and they can rhyme pick GOOD FREAKIN BEATS. And I have faith that these boys wont "sell-out" or what have you. Why? Because they dont have too. They already have catchy hooks and pick good beats...anyone will nod their head to something that's banging...the plus is that these boys actually talk about something so once u get pass the ill beats you're going to start getting more than just rhyming...ur going to get something you can relate to unlike the crazy shit that Slaughterhouse be rhyming about. Truthfully these dudes should've just went solo first and just release maybe one or two tracks together on each of their solo cd's. I don't think they have enough lyrical chemistry to last a hole album. Joe Budden is too busy trying to rap like Crooked I...Royce trying to rap like Joell and etc...they shouldn't have to over reach that much. They should be able to just rap the way they rap but SH don't really pick beats that are condusive to Joe Budden and actually if they did I believe the album would be more grounded. For one I think that he has the best beats on his albums than the other 3 guys and 2 he has more thought provoking songs on his albums as opposed to the mindless lyrical slaughtering that the other 3 do on their albums. And lastly no one wants to hear niggas rapping 100 mph on every song. Slow the shit down and rap about something. TDE all day.

    • datnigga

TDE > All of the above

    • Point Exactly

I whole heartedly agree that the Slaughterhouse machine is dead last in making hits. I do believe however that Good Music will take top spot in a year. Those guys seemed like they came outta know where and are getting mad radio play. I mean "Mercy" is one of the hottest songs out...has good lyrics courtesy of Pusha and what...A BANGING BEAT! SH needs to get with the program or they will find themselves live from the underground(Shout out to Krit btw)...well dead in their case.

  • ETK

my opinion is this, are they underrated? no. overrated? neither. I think they're right where they should be. every track that comes out gets mixed reactions. but here's what I find funny; y'all who are cryin about how they're overrated are the same niggas that will let the "dickriders" know their feelings through 15+ comments. oh yeah, they're "overrated" but they got five god damn singles in the most discussed singles department. why? because you haters just won't shut the fuck up! their songs/lyrics aren't meaningful, but y'all right there giving them comments(thus, hits, thus exposure) on websites with your "LAUGHTERHOUSE" disses and shit. It's almost the same as the YMCMB machine, except YMCMB is mainstream. either way they're not going away. Slaughterhouse is trying to gain exposure. and y'all haters there doing just that, so by all means keep goin.

    • ETK

because we don't have low IQs and that is not a fact if you were letdown by the album, that's your opinion. also, not everybody's lookin out for Nas or J.Cole or any nigga that's doin it big. I don't give a fuck how much SH sells because most of those fans download illegally anyway. I choose to buy the album and that's all that matters. but please, keep going on about they will flop, let's watch the online exposure rack in, because exposure is better than nothing and SH isn't looking to go platinum you fuckin prat

    • Anonymous

Damn. I hate when you niggas write essays on HHDX. Can't y'all get y'all point across with only a few lines?

    • datnigga

Who gives a shit. Exposure or not, the album will flop. Online exposure/discussion is useless, Slaughterhouse is NOT poppin outside the web. Nas also had like 5 singles in the most discussed department. He only did 150k first week, and that's because it's Nas. Young Jeezy & J Cole were in the 200ks first week and they weren't even close to having the comments that Nas got. Like I said, hate or love, exposure or not, Slaughterhouse album will flop. They'll probably do 75-80k first week. And flop or not, it doesn't change the fact that the album was a let down. This is coming from a fan.

  • Anonymous

u know whats stupid...yall niggas back in the day didnt say shit to Kurupt when he was spiting poison in the underground but at the same time he was doing songs with Snoop Dogg and had to dumb his shit down for fans

  • Anonymous

These dudes are clearly trying their damnedest to sell out, with absolutely no pretenses...and yeah sure, they made the messegeboard rippity rap version of Pink Friday/Adventures of Bobby Ray/Lasers and it's complete and total unlistenable cornball trash...and sure that's an complete 180 from their already corny and contrived "we're too real and supery dupery lyrical for the mainstream steez that saved them from obscurity after years of struggles to be revelant in the first place....but what don't you people understand about that? Commercial, ok. The point is that it's garbage though...what are people supposed to APPLAUD them for making a failed attempt at selling out? lol...not only did they fail to make a good album, but they're about to fail at selling out too...and it's OUR bad for calling that Ace of Spades a spade?

  • MGRUPPE.COM

TOO BAD THAT A GOOD CONTRACT KILLS A LYRICAL-CAREER. HIP-HOP IS A UNGRATEFUL BITCH.

  • datnigga

It's sad to see what the actual debut came out to be. We're talking 4 of the best lyricists with Eminem over-shadowing, and this is the best they came up with. "Throw that dick on you, girl." I get that they needed to gain a wider audience, with Jimmy Iovine right behind their ass, but I feel that they lost the respect of many long-time fans, just to gain a few new ones. I bought the first one, but I will not be supporting this circus music from the new D12. Such lame beats, as if every producer went to their worst beat and kept the rest for someone else. I think Eminem was trying to make a 'Recovery 2' with this project. He probly sat them down and said "Now guys, pop is simply short for popular." The worst part of Slaughterhouse is their dickriding fans and their hilarious excuses (for the pop production, pop features, and pop sound). To them, EVERY SINGLE SONG from Slaughterhouse is Gold. I know the game was lacking for a minute but just because these guys are lyrical doesn't mean you should over-rate them. Being lyrical doesn't mean you can write good songs. IDC how fast you rap it, or how many rhymes you use, the song can still end up sounding garbage. And to me, Slaughterhouse is really hit or miss. The mixtape was definitely better than the album, and I'll stick to bumping that. As a fan, I still enjoy certain songs from them that I will bump to this day, but I can admit when they put out sub-par shit. I'm not a hater, but not a dickrider either. Unfortunately, most fans qualify under those 2 categories. So I appreciate unbiased posts when I see them. I still like a few tracks on the album, but that's just a few. As a whole, I give it a 6/10.

    • t

i agree the first album was made only in 2 weeks and turned out betterthan this one, to who much is given, much is expected, this should of been album of the year or even he best album of the las few years! these guys have so much skill and had the time and budget with shady to crete something epic for there core fans and the mainstrem, i dont know what the problem is but this album fell very short of expectations. like dude said this is 4 lyrical giants were talking about here forget eminem even being involved

    • datnigga

^ There's a difference between going mainstream and going pop (selling out). Kendrick Lamar is going mainstream, and as a fan, I'm all for it. But as far as the "killing hiphop" thing, I can't take you or your post seriously, as you've proven yourself to be a dick-rider by calling the Slaughterhouse album "God". I knew Slaughterhouse would gain a lot of bandwagoners, but I didn't know they would take dick-riding to a whole new level. Teenage stans are the worst.

    • Anonymous

here it goes"I love their first album but this one is garbage just because they went mainstream"...niggas ur killing hiphop...compared to this garbage these days and i can say that about underground albums 2...this album is GOD...line by line this album shits on everything AUG 28 WELCOME TO OUR HOUSE go buy and support hiphop

this misfits again they aint nothing but a bunch of nerds one of them look like a walking penis. haha they only thing they were good for was creating a buzz getting niggas hopes out high and selling out. no different from most underground aritst no thanks

  • Fat-Tone

These old bums are overrated as fuck...!!

  • john

critically, they are very very overrated, commercially, they may be underrated but we will see how welcome to: our house will sell but their music is overrated (by fans and dickriders) but Joe Budden should think twice next time before he says something, his "We four of the best rappers in the world" made me laughing my ass off, NONE of them ain't even in my TOP 20-30 (but they are not bad rappers, just nothing special for me) and finally, no Eminem's name in this article :D

    • @John

John You need to shut up you little bitch. Slaughterhouse made a great debut. A few tracks could be thrown away (pun intended), but it's better than half the crap that's out today. Besides, you mentioned Drake, who's a wack R&B singer whose music makes people fall asleep.

Why should I? Maybe Slaughterhouse are more lyrical than Snoop or Pimp C, but when it comes to legacy in hip-hop, they are nowhere near Snoop or Pimp C, Snoop is one of the most important westcoast mcs, just go and listen to The Chronic features or Doggystyle and Pimp C with Bun B helped to "create" southern style, and he was great producer as well, how many mcs are good in producing, rapping and "singing" at the same damn time? You need to learn that lyrics ain't everything, it's all about making great music, UGK and Snoop Dogg make (or used to make) great and influental music, lyrics are just a little part of that, just because you are lyrical on point doesn't make you a good rapper or artist. And I am a big fan of Slaughterhouse debut (I bought it and still got it in my car) and some of their solo work but I'm dissapointed with their Shady album, the mixtape was much better, it all sounds like some throwaway Eminem and Skylar Grey verses and choruses, producers didn't bring their best work, "radio singles" sucked and all of that lame excuses from SH dickriders are ridicolous. They sold out, they sucked at making good major debut, they sucked at making good lyrical album because they are better than that and they sucked at making good commercial album as well, I rather just listen to their debut or mixtape. And I am not hater, I just want some good albums.

study of genre ? you a fucking idiot, there are no rules for taste in music and personal opinion I would put in my top people like Nas, Andr 3000, Big Boi, Rakim, Kendrick Lamar (he is a little bit overrated too), Bun B, Eminem, Scarface, Game, KRS-One, Kanye West, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Ice Cube, Big K.R.I.T., Raekwon, Pusha T (underrated), Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg (even though his new album weren't that good) and that's only rappers that are alive, but I should mention Big Pun, Tupac, Pimp C, Biggie and Ol' Dirty Bastard as well and I also like people like T.I., especially his early work, Chamillionaire (just listen to Ultimate Victory, it is almost perfect album), Jadakiss and Fabolous (these two are so underrated) B.o.B and J. Cole because of their mixtape game, Ludacris (I know it sounds wierd but he put out some serious work like "War with God", "Mouths to Feed", "I Do It for Hip Hop" and I enjoy his funny stuff as well) and Drake (I don't know if he should be named as a rapper, but I like atmosphere of his songs and the way how he express his feelings through his lyrics) + Young Jeezy (I know he is not as lyrical as Slaughterhouse but for some reasons I like him more, maybe because of his well-known adlibs and motivacional speech, but he put out many trash songs and featurings too) I didn't count but it should be more than 30 rappers which are in my top list higher than Slaughterhouse and are not overrated that much.

Even though they're lyrically great, they can't craft good songs together. They proved that on Welcome to: Our House. I'm gonna bring up my short "review" on the album, cause I feel like getting this off of my chest... With the exception of a few songs, I thought this album was a HUGE disappointment & by far the biggest disappointment of the year for me. With all of the hype that was built around it, all of the delays that the fans had to put up with & having Em executive producing it, this album should've been MUCH better. Sure, it's lyrical, but if the production doesn't fit them at all every track except for Die & maybe Asylum) and the songs don't sound good, then what's the point? And keep in mind, this is coming from a fan of each of their previous work (especially Joe's albums/mixtapes) & a fan of the 1st SH album.

how are they over rated? They murder so many tracks its un real. Their wanna be commercial shit is stupid but thats the industry. There are VERY few rappers keeping up with them lyrically in general and even fewer who are doing it on the level they are with the success they have.

But overrated? To an extent, yes.
