TDE emcee Jay Rock recently caught up with HipHopWired to discuss his upcoming tour with his Black Hippy brethren Kendrick Lamar and Ab-Soul. During the interview, the Watts, CA rapper touched upon his plans for his next solo album.

Jay Rock said that he’s been working on the forthcoming effort quite heavily and that he’s decided to take his sound in a new direction. He added that like his partner-in-rhyme Kendrick, he’s been working almost exclusively with his in-house production team.

“[I’m] just working on my album…[it’s coming] real soon. I’m in the process of working on it right now, yahmean?” he said. “Basically, I’ve been working with my same producers, yahmean? In-house. I’ve been working with upcoming producers, too, just trying to come with a whole new sound. I just dropped a new track recently – the whole Internet, they went crazy over it this week. I’m basically just re-building, that’s all I’m doing, coming with something new.”

Speaking of Kendrick, Jay Rock also spoke on K. Dot’s wildly anticipated release good kid, m.A.A.d city, due out this October 2. The west coast rapper kept tight-lipped about his partner’s Aftermath debut, even refusing to confirm whether he would appear on the final tracklist.

“You never know [if I’ll be featured], you never know,” he said. “I can’t talk [about it], just make sure you get it October 2, good kid, m.A.A.d city…I can’t give you nothing [about the album]. I’ma tell you this: he’s been working real hard on it, man, and the music is crazy right now, so just make sure when it drops October 2, you get a copy. Matter of fact, get two.”
