You can tell hip hop is really dying as an art when 2 Chainz can sell 100K+, period. He should be nowhere close to Nas in sales; he certainly is nowhere near Nas lyrically. Lately I hear the most people say that this is new 2012 music, that 2 Chainz, Waka, Rozay, Meek Mill etc ain't tryin to be Nas or Common Sense or Black Thought, and that people are stuck in the past (90s, early 2000s). Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad at anybody that can make a successful career in this game. Its just that you have these dudes coming in the game now that just truly have no talent, and that's not a matter of opinion. They talk about lives they never lived and spit some of the most basic, uncreative grade school rhymes over a hype beat, then get Drake, Nicki, Wayne, Kanye to feature on it. But I guess I understand why these dudes can get on now, and that's because people want to hear that trash. Not saying that every rapper has to talk about politics or the black struggle or philosophy, but even if you're just rhyming about partying in the club, be creative.
