Benzino Says He's Open To Talking With Eminem

Benzino also admits that he shouldn't have used "The Source" to promote his group Made Men.

Benzino recently stopped by Power 105’s The Breakfast Club, reflecting on his time at The Source magazine. During the interview, he revealed that he’s ready to sit down with Emimen and patch up their differences after beefing for several years in the early ‘00s.

“It’d be good if we would be able to really sit down and meet,” he said. “It’s not like we’ve ever really been in a room together, ever really met and never really talked about the situation. I mean, I’d be open to it, you know what I mean? I understand that he’s a great influence on the culture. Thinking back, I probably could have did things differently. I had The Source as a platform, and you just get caught up and at the time, I was caught up.”

He also said that he wasn’t aware of how powerful the mic system was at the magazine, and expressed regret over giving Made Men a high rating. He also addressed using the publication as a way to promote his own group.

“It’s like a double-edged sword, because back then, when I was with the RSO Made Men and we were putting ads in the magazine, it was kind of like the first time that that was happening. So people took it the wrong way. But DJs, the all have artists, they have stuff that they promote on their own platform. I just think it was early in the game and people were so caught up with the mic system and so into the magazine, I probably didn’t even realize it.

“I definitely think it was a mistake to give the Made Men four and a half mics,” he added. “I shouldn’t have did that, but I’d never been involved and given anybody mics.”

"Elvis" What did he steal? lol It's not his fault people have responded to his music for decades.

    • Anonymous

"It's not his fault people have responded to his music for decades" ^you have truly said a whole lot about yourself with that retort. Elvis was a choirboy who was taught to mimic the ways of the rising and quite popular Rhythm & Blues music that was predominately Black. Caucasians were listening to beach & Lawrence Welk orchestra music. If you have the slightest iota of American history education, segregation and hatred played a key part in the "success" of Elvis to be crowned the "king of Rock N Roll" when Chuck Berry and Chess Records were already doing it. Fast forward and see how the descendants of Elvis fans are doing the same with Eminem.

    • Murk707

      Yeah so called "white" people.....

  • Anonymous

At least he's man enough to admit his mistakes. Who here hasn't done some young-and-dumb shit back in the day only to regret it in retrospect? Too bad that his credibility is all but gone.

  • Anonymous

"Eminem will NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR be on the level of Rakim" No. Rakim will never be on the level of Eminem. I know the truth hurts, but if you go to bed with a lie, you're going to wake up with a lie.

  • Anonymous

Talking about raping women, and calling "black" women bitches, and talking about suicide is not multi dimensional......lol, that's called having a mental disease or mental disorder.....its just thats he happens to be a musician...smh

I'm a TRUE head and I never bought anything Eminem ever put out. Ever!! And I'm Asiatic.

    • bizzalls

You don't know hip hop, if you've never bought an eminem album you retard. That dude is the most talented muthafucka on the mic, you idiot.

  • Murk707

Eminem is totally overated. An above average lyrical "Rapper" BUT, as an "MC" his lyrical content is wack, I don't see him moving or connecting with a crowd of Asiatic "so called black people" and he is no better than Kool G Rap, or Big Pun etc. An MC is another level. Eminem will NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR be on the level of Rakim, or KRS-ONE. Eminem rocks crowds of European type people, or so called "white" people. Thats why his exposure is so high. But REAL Hip Hop heads give him Eminem his space, but he is not the quintesional MC, he is a great rapper like Jay-Z. I put Jay-Z and Eminem on the same level.

    • Bizzalls

Murk707, are you just plain retarded? Eminem is the most lyrically skilled emcee I've ever heard. Just go and listen to "The Way I Am." and tell me he aint the greatest rapper you ever heard. he talks about his fame and crazy fans and literallly rhymes every single word on that song. he keeps the same rhyme scheme the whole time. You must be slow, or you haven't really listened to enough Eminem. Dumbfuck.

    • Murk707

My bad, I mispelled one word. Alright "Engish" teacher, the correct spelling is "quintessential". I see you are a English master....I waisted half and hour, (You mean half an hour), lol writing "bullish" huh...LOL!!(Bullshit you meant to say??) I said Real Heads, give Eminem his due respect, but he only brings lyricism to the game, morbid lyricism in my opinion....nothing else. If you can read I said he is a great rapper, but people so called "white people" not so called "black people", think he is the best rapper ALIVE!!!!NAS and a host of rappers are 10 times better than EMINEM. A rapper is not necessarily an MC. So he raps great, I will be the first to admit that but he is not an MC. He doesn't have the total package a legenday MC has. He doesn't drop any Hip Hop knowledge esoteric or exoteric, etc. Go to Youtube, type in KRS ONE The MC video, then go and type in Afrika Bambaata The Infinity Lessons, and read those lessons. Then you will see that what I'm saying is all wise right and exact, and that so called white people would still be in the caves of Europe thinking the earth was flat if it wasn't for the "black" Moors teaching them civilization. Eminem is the modern day Elvis. He is only GREAT in so called "white peoples" eyes.

    • Anonymous

Is he above average or is he great? Which one is he? You contradicted the ish outta yo self

    • Anonymous

You really need to purchase hooked on phonics or at least proof read your ish before you hit the, "post reply" button. You wasted about half and hour of your life writing bullish! You said that Em is an above average rapper. If so, doesn't that make him a pretty good rapper? Above average in my books is pretty damn good son! How many rappers are even on the level of Krs or Rakim? That's not a fair comparison you jackass!

    • sm

Bruh, that is a crock shit. Eminem is dope, but I never thought he invented hip hop. My top five is 2pac, Biggie, Eminem, Nas and Jay-z.

"He's a better MC then all of them and has more quantity material then them with about the same overall quality" White folks and their devilish ways.

    • Anonymous

He's a better MC then all of them and has more quantity material then them with about the same overall quality. Not taking it too far, besides L and Pun were realllly one dimensional. KRS was never that incredible although hes great at what he does. Rakim was the best for his time and really elevated the game but many MCs can outdo him now. Pac you can make an arguement, its more consistent catalog vs better MC.

  • Ricky Rozay

most of these rappers aint real niggas. Word, Nas bankrupt never was a drug runner, Lil Wayne aint no blood, Jeezy aint no BMF, 50 a snitch, Game a stripper, 2pac a ballerina. its always funny to me when raps fans refuse to put someone else's past behind them. eminem has matured since this shit 10 years ago, and yall still holding on like u were directly involved like these niggas are your fathers. smh. let it go. yall get so invested in these rappers lives that you find it hard to let shit go that doesnt even have to do with the music if he wants to reconcile more power to him.

    • Jack Compton

He wants to reconcile because he's nobody, and eminem is eminem. Em's not going to sit down with him ever, not out of spite or holding a grudge, just because why the fuck would he or should he. Benzino couldn't be any further off his radar.

Benzino's a clown. Not aware of the power of the mic system at the Source. How can you be a part of rap music and not know how artists at that time were striving to get 5 mics. Go away, you had your 15 minutes.

  • Anonymous

yeah right, as if Eminem would ever have a sit-down with this clown. benzino spit some lyrics about dying em's hair with blood or some foul shit in one of his songs i remember. who would have a sit down with someone who rapped about in vivid detail about how they would murder you?

Of course this bum ass nigga would be open to talking to Em. Em is still relevant and Benz isn't. Seems like Benzino will do anything and talk to anyone to make a comeback. Shit, he'll probably hit up Justin Bieber and try to make a track with him.

    • Anonymous

Can't blame zino, all that eminem hype of the 00s. You'll either be into it or just hate it like dog shit!

  • Romero

Well Benzino is from Boston and he OWNED something, and Ran a successful empire- half the artist from New York can't claim that- I think it was a bit of discrimination on his part because the industry favored Eminem and blacks weren't receiving the same respect. For the black community Benzino spoke for the local neighborhood barbershops of black men who thought the same way. He looked like a racist but he admits he could have done things differently and I respect him for being the black voice during that time because not all of us we're even feeling Eminem like that so don't lie...lol

    • Up North

Half the artists from ANY city can't claim owning something so what is your point? Look at those who DO own something and peep where they're from. Also, Benzino was jealous plain and simple. Nobody even realized Benzino had left the game until he pops up in a interview every great once in a while. Zino was jealous of the respect and love Em got from the hip hop community and still is.

    • Anonymous

@Drebinslevin- FYI-White artist have a history of coming in and stealing styles- Elvis, and many blues players did it; so blacks were not during the time Eminem came out treating him any different then ones before him. Benzino has always been treated as a black man. Blacks at Barbershops tell history lessons about whites coming into genre's where Blacks dominated and the industry wanted a white face to market that brand to the masses. Please don't act like blacks don't know history...There were plenty of people better than him he was just the new right white for marketing, like the great white hope

    • DrebinSlevin

@Romero. Are you fucked? Benzino's half black, what black voice does he rep? Speaking at barber shops don't make you some leader of the people. It seemed like black people weren't getting the same respect as him because everyone else who was major was making cookie cutter rap. Em was rapping on a level not heard in a long time. Benzino was one of those lazy rappers thinking that he could still make money doing mafioso rap.

  • SCHWARZ

    TOMMY'S THEME-MADE MEN FEAT THE LOX>>>>>>>>

  • Stillmatik

Wow, only took Ray 47 years to quit acting like a child and grow up. Got what he deserved, Em was vicious with some of those rhymes, pretty much every line in Nail in the Coffin and The Sauce was an extremely clever and well conceived blow to Benzino's cred. Lost his mag, became the joke of the industry, and musical career unbelievably sank even lower. Damn Ray, you learn some lessons the hard way hunh? And I'm sorry, but after you lose so badly when you're old enough to know much better, at least stick to your guns. This is like getting both your legs broken by a mutherfucker, then that mutherfucker steals your home, your cars and your money, then he brags about it to the neighbourhood, and then you tell this motherfucker you want to sit down and talk about it. Pathetic.

Well whats wrong with other black men using their entrepreneurial skills and having NEXT in line to do that? Benzino set the bar high and even if he had ethical misjudgement he was honest to say he made mistakes. A lot of companies stop running print especially when rappers don't purchase subscription and just run they mouth all day with no business acumen...lol

  • Sharp

...Wasn't Benzino starting up what was becoming and would definitely have potentially became 'Lyrical Deathwish pt 2' by getting into it with the Slaughter gang a year or so ago? They are grown men, unlike 99% of you that comment here on these articles. Benzino was a bastard, Eminem also was a bastard. All of these artists that used to do dumb shit are mature now, and they don't think like ignorant hoodlums from the ghetto anymore. Who are you fans to decide if Em would talk with Zino? You are not Em, you may think you know him, but you don't know him.

    • Stillmatik

Benzino was pushing 40 when he went on his rampage 10 years ago. Way too old to be acting like a dingbat.

  • zmz

Please. I'd say he's open to attempt career resuscitation, again, by putting Em's name in his mouth. This time he's just taking a different approach. Wouldn't want to get massacred like last time.

  • Anonymous

eminems not going to sit down with u, he already destroyed ur carear after u printed posters of him being hung in ur magazine and called him hip hops hitler. Whos saying he's matured? hes was 40 when he was doing this shit

"never judged a artist by whats going on in hiphop they judge the artist by their own body of work" On the contrary. They switched sides when it meant great publicity for the magazine. They literally gave every and any mainstream album a good review. Only the bottom feeder albums got 2 1/2, to 3 mics, and that was just so people wouldn't think they were being paid off by labels to give positive reviews which back then meant more album sales.

  • Anonymous

all the eminem stans coming out in their hoards.."why would he talk with Benzino". He already talks with Pink...this guy should get a whole lot more attention for ruining the source rather than beefing with eminem

  • Anonymous

He only wants to talk to him because hes nobody..if he had the least bit of shine hed still being saying fuck eminem. He bodied u dude time to give it up and go judge some battles somewhere.

  • casper21

I'm not sure what the whole story behind their feud was, but at least he's almost willing to go on air and say "i was wrong". The fact that he ran the source and hip hop weekly but doesn't read them seems a little off.

this nigga neck like "help me I can't breath under this nigga head!!" nah seriously tho, good he grew up but its not even about Em, homie ruined a great magazine to boost his own career, that shit ain't cool but I respect him tho

    • Alcoholics revenge

Keep in mind Benzino is not slow or dumb, he knows how to navigate the industry because he's lived threw changes and he has never starved or been hungry. His work ethic was incredible when he was in Boston. I thought that was him in the car with Stevie J- so quite naturally he's still selling his brand. I believe he reads his magazine he was just being eccentric like rich people to make it appear irrelevant since he's doing the brunt of the work. Don't sleep on em- he still got people talking so his marketing machine is working. New artist should be tryin to throw him a demo and get on

    • JETLIFE116

For admit he was wrong nigga + he's not trying to do some lame shit like sign to Cash Money to get his career back he knows its quiet for his rap career but he still hustling

  • Dafuhhhck

    Who cares about Benzino?

  • E.T.

Who let this motherfucker out the casket? The only time people pay attention to this cat is when he's name dropping Eminem or giving his Source Booth Confessions. Everyone already knew he single-handedly ruined The source. Is this news? Him Wanting to Let Bygone's with Em is just embarrassing. Thats that kinda shit he should keep to himself. You can't use the same rapper that took you OUT of the game to get you back INTO the game, SMH. Even Though That whole "Beef" was completely one-sided, It was Great while it lasted. Especially when Ja Put his Ugly Mug out there too. Everyone in that Shady camp was throwing shots at anyone and everyone. Some Classic Diss tracks came from it. That Was probably Shady/Aftermath's Prime. Even Stat Quo and Obie we're throwing fuel in that fire. Where's the Beef these days? These New Generation Rappers need to start trash talking on they moms or ladies or something. Beef's turning into a dying sport, shame too. Its brought out some of the best material for some rappers.

  • pimp300

i always respected this dude, but he did some wrong shit to em and the camp. he admits his mistakes. i hope he does well for himself(in the rap game).

  • J Bo

Benzino just trying to keep his name in the spotlight along with his VH1 run. Eminem is waaaaaay past this and probably hasn't even thought about Benzino in 10 years. No point in Em contributing to extending Benzino's latest attempt at 15 minutes of fame.

  • OUCH!

sit with em? lmao GTFOH shit will never happen. God forgives, Eminem DONT!

The source was my hiphop bible a 3.5 mic by today standards would be a 4.5 mic album they was very thorough on the ratings and the reviews they never judged a artist by whats going on in hiphop they judge the artist by their own body of work and how she or he have progress within thereown style of music

Always thought that whole thing was some ho shit on Benzino's part, and haven't cared for him since. Glad he admitted wrong, though. Can't blame Em if he wants nothing to do with him, The Source and Co. really shitted on Shady/Aftermath. I wouldn't know (or care) who Benzino was if not for that beef.

  • asher1985

i respect benzino for this interview. he's right, ANYBODY would have done the same thing. integrity means nothing when you're desperate to get on. just like if your dad is a ceo at a company and you really wanna work there, you dont care if you get the job over a more qualified candidate as long as you get the job...however it was wrong what he did, and now he's apologizing. so respect, do i think eminem will talk with him? i doubt it, but at least he's saying he was wrong, cant ask for much more than that.

If he already had control of the source that meant he had money. So no he didn't need to do what he did. He ruined the source because he had no integrity

So many dumb naive dick riders on here. I don't like 90% of Em's music. Don't like his flow/voice or most of the beats he uses and his sung choruses are wack.. But lyrically he's a beast on the mic. Benzino is waaack!! He ruined the source, he hasn't "grown" you idiots, he just wants to eat off Eminem's name. I bet all of you saying that he's "grown" and genuine would be the first to say snitches can't be forgiven.. To me what he did to the source is in the same category for journalism and hip hop
