With Lil’ Kim taking aim at Nicki Minaj, and Azealia Banks letting off shots at both Kim and Iggy Azalea, it’s hard to imagine the female Hip Hop scene as anything short of a war zone. Now, in a recent interview with MTV, Ruff Ryders’ first lady Eve gives her two cents about current state of women in Hip Hop.

The Philadelphia rapper said that in her era, there was a sense of unity between female rappers like Missy Elliott, Lil’ Kim and herself that is no longer present. She said that today’s female rappers should put their differences aside a record a song together to recreate that bond – but whether they ever will, she is unsure.

“It sucks ’cause it’s lacking. It really is, you know?” she said. “I mean, there are some dope females. Nicki is definitely holding it down…then obviously there are some dope females that are coming up. But I feel like when I was out and Missy [Elliott] was out, Kim, whatever, it was kind of shared in a sense and it’s not like that right now…hopefully, it will come back to that [era in the late 1990s].”

She continued, “It’s a good business move so, yeah, it’d be a dope record. But will it happen? Who knows?”
